    ... for 4 straight hours. Tim and I put on quite the show with our cupcake walk and there was a lot of hard selling at first, especially since a lot of the adults don’t speak English. We were exhausted by the end, but one of my mothers had made a tiramisu for us to bring home (she makes THE best!) so that helped with our recovery.

    Just 2 more weeks till our winter break. We finish our second reporting period ...

    ... the water leaks and a hole to the outside by my air conditioner, there's no way to stop the rodent traffic. The librarian saw one run across the floor during school - thankfully, the kids didn't see it.
    Lesson learned - store ALL food in plastic bins. Then Friday, another student had a birthday and the amazing birthday cake came in at noon for an afternoon celebration. I put on the back table and just took the cover off a few minutes before the class came in. ...

    ... went smoothly and we got checked into our hotel in Kowloon. Late as it was, we went out for supper and the streets were still full of people, but a whole different feel. Cars stopped at red lights, we heard English spoken and read English signs! We had a great day Saturday – shopping, walking and enjoying the sun that we could see in the blue sky.     ... was the lighting display on the second floor – room after room of the largest, most spectacular chandeliers I have ever seen- bigger than Versailles! I could only wonder- who buys these and where do they live? So many things about living in Dongguan are incongruent with my expectations.

    ... milk tea for each student! A lot of kids (120 of them) signed up for a Kids Night Out after school that they paid to attend. Teachers handed out treat from their classrooms as the older kids brought them around in groups. Kids here don’t trick or treat because everyone lives in apartments. The school had brought in treats from the US (little chocolate bars) with a stern warning to the teachers NOT to eat the treats because they had been counted and ...
