So currently lying on our balcony in the glorious sunshine. Sorry I haven't updated for a while. We had 5 amazing days in Vang Vieng! The first day we arrived I was pretty grumpy as it was bucketing down with rain and my i phone was predicting rain for the whole week but it turned out to be sunny every day! Our first full day there we decided it would be nice to something a bit active and see some nice scenery so after a good breakfast at what became our favourite bakery (and ...

    Caving in Kong Lor

From Vang Vieng and its madness, I travelled on to Vientiene, the capital city. More because it is a hub from which to get elsewhere than any other reason. I had heard it was a 'take it or leave it' city. One thing I really did want to see there was the COPE Visitor Centre, which exhibits the history of UXOs and their devastation throughout Laos PDR, as well as being a charity that helps to provide limbs and aid to those who have been affected. It was a really interesting ...

Through Kong Lo Cave and Back

Once we started, there was no escaping the bouncing bus ride to Tham Kong Lo which turned into a nine hour odyssey, that is if one includes the bus breaking down and and the commandeering of two different passenger trucks called jumbo tuktuks. Almost all of the ride was paved and generously potholed but we made it, literally to the end of the road – the very end.
The reason for the trip was so that we could travel 7 more kilometres, this time off road. ...

11 February 2015This morning we went back to the same place as there is not much other choice for breakfast. We directly rented here as well a motor bike for the two of us. The reason we are here is for the Kong Lo Caves. These are laying in the Phu Hin Bun NPA. It is a one hour (48 km) drive by motorbike from Ban Khoun Kham. So we decided both drive halfway so it is not boring for the one on the back. The drive is through ...

    Kong Lor caves

A travel blog entry by tomandhannah on Jan 14, 2015

When planning our trip, the Kong Lor caves was one of our most anticipated stops. It did not disappoint! The bus journey from Vientiane to Kong Lor was great fun! We took a local bus, and we were obviously the only tourists! The bus was packed with people and boxes. Lots of locals would jump on and off the bus along the route to sell you rice and bbq food. We got off the bus at a place call Vieng Kham and took a truck to the village of Ban Khoun Kham. This was ...
