The Iya valley is sold in the guidebooks as undiscovered hidden Back to nature Japan. So I was ready for a rushing river and long hikes. ... As we were running out of time before the park was due to close we practically ran around the park and managed to do most of the 1hr & 40 minute walk in 30 minutes, whilst also carrying 15kg each!!

Naruto was ok if you're passing through it but we wouldn't recommend just heading there, so maybe a thumbs down. However, ritsurin park was beautiful and we would have liked to spend longer there so probably a thumbs up.
Next stop Kotohira and a ryokan ...

... got a free ride to Mazeno-oka camp-jo. How sweet of them! Mazeno-oka was huge! And so pretty with rolling grass covered wee hills and palm trees and a look-out point over the sea.
