Review of Cambodia (PP and SR)

... fact and talk about this with sincere gratitude
- Beer drinker's heaven: she's good and she's dirt cheap! 50 cents for a mug of draught. I know it's a recurring theme but no, i'm not an alcoholic
- The law is cracking down big time on child sex tourism, there are advertisements everywhere to indicate that this is against the law and everyone has to report on suspicious activities. We've seen some posters with pictures of children, indicating they are the ...

Angkor Wat

... for our trip, so the next morning Thera picked us up for an early start. First on the list was Angkor Wat, the largest religious building in the world. This temple with its five towers was built to honor Vishnu and is the symbol of the nation. We crossed the long causeway over the moat, which is thought to represent the oceans, into the temple. Meandering through the corridors, Claire and I secured our future good fortune ...

... my arrival it is overcast and raining heavily most days. The stream outside our school has become a river. I wonder if I will get into work tomorrow. Hope so we have 10 new volunteers starting and have a lot of work to finish on our new site in Treak village where we are building another school facility and are investigating the possibility of raising the rice paddy at the back to provide a sports pitch. Its not nine to five here.

... out of the taxi into the tuk tuk where they will take us to an extortionate hotel in the middle of nowhere.

We all pick up traits from our parents, good traits, strong traits in times of stress. I was very tired and I was ALL scammed out, the line in the sand had been drawn, I think I turned into my mother for ten minutes. The tuk tuk driver was opened the door and stuck his head in the cab, if he thought for ...

... reliefs of everyday cambodian life and other scenes of battle. I spent a good amount of time here and explored all the little passageways.

Next was Baphuon. This was a temple that was almost totally taken apart by archeologists, every stone's place was painstakingly recorded, and they were spread out over 10 hectacres to be put back together. Unfortunately, before that could be done the Cambodian civil war began and then the Khmer Rouge came to power ...

... Sorry I can't tell you its name but I have sent home all the information I have on Angkor Wat). All up, I saw 20 temples close-up and was pretty much templed out by the end of it. The whole layout of the place is beautiful though - lovely wide tree-lined avenues connecting the temples, the moats, the majesty of the whole place.
I apologise for all the elephant photos - I was going through an elephant-mad phase.

Amazing Cambodia

... at the hostel, then I borrowed a ****** bike from my hostel and wandered the streets until I wore myslef out. I cannot even describe how dazed I was from 48 hours of sleep depravation.

Despite the lack of sleep I managed to stay up long enough to party with the staff and hostel-mates. I happened to arrive on the manager's birthday so drinks were half off at the downstairs bar and many people were painting their faces. The manager, Chris ...

Nice breeze at the top and lovely to sit and reflect in the cool.

Back to the hotel at 4:30, tired but satisfied. Showers and laundry. Walked into town and went back to Molly Malone's for another nice dinner. Saw a few fireworks on the way home after having another dismal attempt at cappuccinos. About 90 channels on the TV but few are worth watching.
