(Jodie) We arrived two days before Rachel giving us time to check out the local amenities, stock up our Presidential Suite at the Royal Asia, and have an early night before picking up Rachel bright and early at 6am (admittedly bed at 2am was not as early as planned!). It was great seeing Rach again and it's particularly nice when it doesn't feel like it's been 7 months since the last time we saw each other. It felt like Xmas or my b'day when Rachel came with some pressies and letters from som...
Bangkok, Thailand jodietuckWell I must say I feel that is my 'Asian home'. Don't know why this farm girl from Saskatchewan feels at home in this big city but I really appreciate the friendliness of the people, feeling personal safety, and compared to Vietnam, the absence of motorbikes and cars incessantly honking (motorbikes don't even have MIRRORS on them, noticed that on La's machine as well as the persistent sales approach of people selling things on the street as they will follow you even after you have said "no, t...
Bangkok, Thailand lecklund I am in Bangkok airport waiting for my flight to Khon Kaen and subsequent bus ride to Mahasarakham University.
I had tried to take the bus to Mahasarakham but I had no less than 3 Thai friends call the bus station, and got 3 different answers. It is so exasperating! You would think the bus station personnel would have the answers, but no! First, I ask for the bus to Khon Kaen and they say there is no bus to Khon Kaen. Odd, everyone has told me there was one. Then it hits me! It’...
Finally arrived here at 11:00 this morning after a 17hr train journey, not too bad a experience though. Got checked in to the hotel and out to find somewhere to do all my washing !

We all went out to the Silk bar in the Kho San road and had a few drinks before moving on to eat at a nice place round the corner, Priya and Dips re-joined us from their ...
I spent the day at MBK shopping centre in Bangkok and caught a bus to Surathani at 18:30 en route to Kho Pagnan for the Full moon party.

Sounds like some German prison camp, doesn't it?
"Hey Mary, what you doin’ in Bangkok? You s’posed to be on some train in Vietnam, or at the very least, crawling over some more ancient temples in Cambodia! I’m getting tired of this craziness of you ending up unexpectedly in Bangkok!"
To be honest, so am I.
Here’s the skinny. I don’t know why I’m talking like this either, so let’s pass it off as drugs ...
... but this just proves that Bangkok's tuk-tuk mafia are a whole other breed ! He's lucky we're the calm people we are, other people might have just thumped him (and no doubt landed themselves in a world of trouble!)
At the TAT they gave us loads of information, looked up all the many options for boats and buses and trains down the coast and told us that it's not a Buddhist holiday and we shouldn't trust tuk-tuk drivers. What a shame, they spoil an otherwise charming and interesting city.
... who could walk freely although wet! I always wondering why does the triffic jam when it rains? It seems to be like this everytime! just weird.
What is the connection between the heavy rain and the heavy traffic? So mysterious!
The traffice on the road in front of my home was packed although it was quite late now at the time I arrived home. The rain continues to fell down at the moment I go to bed. Good night an endless rain!
... also got to speak to english people which was also refreshing.
This is our last day in koh samui - it monsooned (it can be a verb for the sakeof this sentance) todayso sunbathing was off the list which is why we really have time to update this blog.

When I got to the foyer I was elated that I had made it out alive with all my belongings. I got talking to some other foreigners and they told me that they where in their rooms when they smelt smoke, they opened the door and saw the flames. It is apparent that the hotel does not have smoke alarms. They just left their rooms with only their under ware on. I felt sorry for them and ...
