By now it was pushing 10pm, and it was time to head back. Kristi took Alex back (he needed sleep), and the rest of us went to see the duomo before heading back to bed. The cathedral of Florence is the 3rd largest church in the world, and again, it really isn’t possible for me to describe the scale of the building, but I think I may have to pick up a ...

We had a lovely week and a half hanging out here. In Rome it was about the sites and history. In Orvieto it has been about the people and slowing down. We met really wonderful people here and that made Orvieto feel more like home.

First of all, Susan from Santa Barbara shared her home with us. Then, Victoria took us all around and introduced us to all her Italian friends ...

... otherwise why were all these people hanging around?

All of sudden the gigantic doors of the Duomo opened! We all moved over to see what was happening. As we looked inside and down the candle lit aisle we could see a procession coming towards us. We could hear the choir singing and the organ playing as the procession neared the entryway. The crowd ...

... Bolsena is a beautiful crater lake formed by the eruption of Mount Vulsini. Besides being a lovely recreation area, it is famous for the miracle that happened here in 1263 when a German priest was celebrating Holy Mass. Blood started to seep from the consecrated Host. The blood stained cloth was then brought to the Pope in Orvieto. The cloth now lies in the Duomo ...
