Z HOTEL NYC was a marvellous experience for us. We stayed there for 13 days in June. The hotel is so artistic in its decor, really imaginative. It's on Long Island, but a short trip to Manhattan by the cute hotel shuttle bus. The food was great, the staff were friendly and extra helpful in all respects. Any hiccup was fixed almost immediately - including a very noisy air conditioner. They couldn't have been more helpful! The bed was so comfy, with plenty of pillows. The room was well cleaned and although small it was just right for us. There was only one facility missing - tea and coffee making in your room, but this wasn't an enormous problem, because the bar downstairs served coffees. On the roof there is a cocktail bar and lots of lounge chairs, ideal for relaxing and taking in what must be the best view in New York - the sunset and the lights of Manhattan! The floor to ceiling windows in the rooms were just ideal for taking in that view. On the whole, we would thoroughly recommend Z Hotel as a wonderful place to stay.

You really can't beat the balance of price and comfort at this hotel. Its proximity to Times Square and massive amount of rooms makes this a great choice for tourists to the area. The staff is very helpful and has been willing to go the extra mile to help out if they can. The rooms are quite small.

I'm now in a very, very, very cold New York - can't believe how many layers I've had on today (including thermals!!), and I've still not been warm, and I never feel the cold!!! Something to do with being in 30+C heat for the last 5-6 weeks perhaps?!! …

Actually, this morning we went to a time share discussion. Yes, silly, I know, but to get a hotel room in NYC for $350 for 3 days, we spent 90 minutes listening to a pitch.  (We didn't buy...) but we got out just in time to slide into our seats at the Walter Kerr Theater (my first time in this beautiful small venue) to see A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE …

After an okay night of sleep (the beds are pretty comfortable but we can hear the traffic too easily from eighth avenue) Joey, Fernando, Jon and I took the train down to Battery Park and the Seaport - areas I never explored when I lived in NYC in the 70s. (A Vinny Verelli hint - if you want to get discount tickets for Broadway shows, don't stand in …

Packed up and away we go, saying goodbye to our condo, the mountains, and the countryside. New York bound, we drove South, headed for LaGuardia to return our trusted rental car that we will no longer need. Instead, it will be walking, busing, and train riding for us. Driving to the airport was only made possible with the use of the gps. We did make …

          WEDNESDAY 10th JUNE 2015

I just decided to do a quick piece on Times Square, and add some photos… here it is…..

Times Square isn't square! I don't think it ever was.
Times Square began it's life as Longacre Square. There wasn't much of significance there until
1904 -5 when what is now known as One Times …
