... thankfully this ended well! I arrived, unloaded, got signed in and found a supermarket! Bought some veggies and fruit to ward off scurvey and, what I thought was milk but later turned out to be some creamy gross stuff that I had to throw in the garbage with Flair!
The next morning is my tree day, I woke up feeling rather gross with a foggy head and a nose that was running away from me. I decided to take ...
Ferrara is a Medieval town that dates back around 1300 years when Ferrara was a Byzantine military fortified city. In 1115 Ferrara became a free commune and in 1135 the Cathederal was built.
The driving was flat and the highways were fast with lots of speeding passers. The parking was limited at Ferrara and the complexity for the parking signs left us concerned while we were touring. The parking spaces were tiny and many of the vehicles were dented and ...
Short train ride from Florence after a hair raising trip trying to return the rental car in confusing, congested and traffic restrictied Florence (don't rent a car downtown go to the airport). Bologna is an university town (even Johns Hopkin has a campus). Very historical town with a great plaza area like most towns and a great antique market.
Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy pathenger... the language. Gherardo was a willing wealth of knowledge, and taught me that if a man in Italy is wearing a bespoke suit, he unbuttons the last button on the cuff of his suit, to signify this. I started looking for it and saw it all over the place.
After dinner we rushed to catch our train back to the hotel, but we missed it. It was close to midnight, and no more trains. After haggling with ...
... but I can't buy anything unless I throw something away, and am not ready for that yet. My clothes are still pretty new, but I am getting tired of them already. Day in and day out. But, I bought most everything at the camping store, and all trousers are perfect for travel. So, maybe I will wait and buy some new duds in Egypt. Or the bazaars in Turkey.
There is not a bunch to see here in Bologna, so I just walked the streets and did the Cathedral.
... m dying to hear about what's happening at home, what's new with everyone and if I missed anything. Will post again tommorrow if we stay another night, I think we will because I got a cooking class in some small town in Tuscany in 2 days and it's only an hour away from here. The cool thng is sunny can do it too or go hiking or biking in the country.
Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy ibeep... only change their clothes when the season changes, not before, no matter what the weather. I wander around the city on a Sunday morning enjoying the mild weather and eventually work my way across to the Duomo. I climb the steps of the Duomo, which I didn't have time to do last year, and get close-up views of the thousands of sculptures, gargoyles, and carvings on it (over 3400). That afternoon I catch the train for Vevey in French Switzerland, where Charlie Chaplin lived for much of his life.
Bologna, Italy everardt... it was like arriving at Central Station, cars everywhere so we got out with our luggage and Lorenzo to help us get to the train. Of COURSE when we arrived it was "in ritardo" but only by 10 minutes....................they finally posted our platform so we were able to find the train and get ourselves on. Saying goodbye is ...
Bologna, Italy chella... or your favourite road car models and you’ll find them here. But despite how impressive it all was, I think Hoges and I had just seen a wider range of museum piece Ferraris on the factory floor. Ferrari seem to have saved the best vehicles for the pleasure and motivation of their employees going about their day-to-day work, and I liked that methodology a lot.
With the primary goal of our trip completed, we set out to spend the rest of the afternoon ...
I made it to Bologna early this morning, around 6:30. I went all the way up the Via Independenza, and waited a little while in the Piazza del Nettuno, the time to wake up and to let my new roommate, Linda, sleep a little. I then decided it was more than time to move, and went to the first bank I found to take the money to pay for my ...
