Samaria Gorge was on my "1000 things to do before you die list" so it had to be done! The 18km long gorge is the longest in Europe and the 6 hour trek from Xyloskalo to the seaside village of Agia Roumeli is all downhill. Athens to Crete
... were getting sprayed with tear gas. On the way home from the beach we accidentally rode through one of the areas where the demonstrators were and we got a pretty good dose of leftover tear gas. Anna was not happy about it. It's nasty stuff to say the least. But the next day all was calm and life resumed it's normalcy for downtown Athens. We rode past the same tear gas spot and everything was cleaned up. There was no sign of the previous day's festivities. ...
