We will be staying Riomaggiore (one of the five villages) and have booked our accomodation already at Casa Lorenza We will be staying in apartment Nettuno.
What shouldn't we miss while we are here?
As the traffic had been horrendous yesterday we decided to hit the autostrada and pay the tolls to save our sanity and hightail it to our next destination. 130kms and 10 Euro later we arrived in Santa Margherita Ligure, which is just up the road from Portofino.
This place is a bit larger than we are used to and Italian towns all have small car parks and narrow ...
... an hour for the direct train. We were tired of the rain so we hopped on the first train. Got off on the next stop, the correct station and waited briefly for the train to Riomaggiore. Due to our slip up we were now going to be stuck with our luggage for the rest of the afternoon since our hostel only allowed check in either before 1pm or after 4pm. It was 1:30pm when we arrived in Riomaggiore finally. Rain was in the forecast in Cinque Terre so we found some cover after exiting ...

Had seen it on Getaway and looked very pretty.. Found a hotel with sea views and have spent 2 nights here resting , climbing around local castles… eating sleeping and watching the boats go in and out… not much English here but we are not hungry or thirsty so all going well….
Tomorrow we are off to the South of France.. 3 nights planned in Nice.. Really looking forward to it but have loved Italy…
... as directed, only to discover the German couple directly in front of us. They were staying in the hotel as well! We got a good laugh and introduced ourselves, figuring we’d probably run into each other 5 more times. Then the laughing stopped as we discovered we had to climb a long series of steep steps to get to our hotel room. I took all three of the carry-on bags, and Gabe muscled our two large bags up the ...
Vernazza, Italian Riviera, Italy claraz8... simply wandering around, seeing the seaside, the traditional houses scattered along the cliffs, and the fantastic walk trails. The walk we did was for the main part right along the edge of the cliff, giving an uninhibited view of the coast. It took us around three hours at a meandering pace, from Vernazza to corniglia (the hard, hilly and beautiful part), corniglia to manarolla (mostly down stairs or along a ...
Vernazza, Italian Riviera, Italy lilbluaxelotl... the lens was not affected ,and the photos all came out. Then we had to walk halfway down the mountain to catch the bus back into town, so by the time we boarded the ferry to take us home, we were very sore. We went to dinner at a recommended pasta restaurant owned by 2 Sicilian brothers - pesto lasagne and tortellini but unfortunately not enough room for the superb-looking desserts that we'd been told to come for in the first place.
Vernazza, Italian Riviera, Italy zednik... so beautiful wow, is all i could say and mom too for that matter, even though she lives on the water in Maine, just a little different though. So we climbed from town to town, hiked the trails and saw each town, so we can officially say Vernazza is the best :) We also ate some of the best food, we had some curry risotto with prawns, pesto lasagne and all the seafood you could imagine so fresh and so tasty, we had our own ...
Vernazza, Italian Riviera, Italy indigosb... when we were docking the waves picked up and it made for an exciting departure. People were getting tossed everywhere! The hike was one of the highlights of the trip so far. We washed up at our hotel room and went out to eat at a different harborfront restaurant and had cheap but bland food-more Chef Boyardee! We grabbed a bottle of melon liquor and lemoncello and drank by the harbor and enjoyed the sunset. The two liquors were amazing! We ended up buying a few bottles to take home.
