    ... and after the bad start things got a whole lot better and I really got to like the country, its people and to enjoy the places I saw, even if was slightly rushed. It has an incredible wealth of history and sights which means there's plenty more to come back and see and I hope someday I will.

    I'd debated coming back through the Mont Blanc tunnel against the far longer but much prettier option of going over the mountain pass. To tick it off the list I decided to go for ...

    On Saturday morning we headed off for a visit to Falmouth and the National Maritime Museum. Bruce had set the GPS and had told it that we wanted to avoid toll roads. Off we went and not far into the trip Chris decided that we were heading in the wrong direction so we pulled over and re-checked the GPS settings and re-programmed it to include toll roads (we had not found a toll on a road yet). Off we went again and eventually got to the motorway ...

    So the journey begins!

    ... back to the hotel.

    On Friday morning we left Cardiff to travel to Plymouth where we will spend 3 nights. Most of the journey was on the motorway and the traffic was not very heavy. We were happy that we were travelling south, rather than north, as the northbound traffic was very, very heavy and very slow for at least 30 miles. We don’t know why there was a great exodus from the Devon and Cornwall area - maybe they were heading to London to cheer on ...

    And we are off.
