Historical Traveler Reviews Rossli Interlaken
Fantastic Place to Visit
This is a quaint hotel with about 20 rooms of various size. No elevator/lift so luggage can be a hassel.
Owner was friendly and helpful. Offered lots of advice.
Hotel rooms do not have phones or air conditioning but neither are really needed for a short stay. Temperature was about 48 degrees F. for our trip. During this past March we were told thtat the temperature was about 80 degrees F which would be really warm without air conditioning.
Breakfast was good and promptly served.
Hotel was easy to find except when I came home late one night and walked right past it since the outside lights had been turned off.
Overall a very pleasant stay. Rustic and unique.
Small hotel wonderful view!
We stayed one night on april 22nd in Hotel Rössli. Interlaken is a small town and this hotel is 2 blocks away rom the train station and river.
The price was ok; staff was friendly. We got a room with a balcony which we enjoyed very much.
No frills, but an excellent, friendly hotel
The Rossli is a simple but comfortable hotel. The lounge/bar area resembles someone's front room at home (books & games available). The other guests really make or break it and unfortunately the guests when we were there were quite anti-social, so we went out a lot.
Our bedroom was basic, but comfortable and spacious with dual aspect views (I understand the rooms vary though).
The hotel is just away from the centre of Interlaken, in the old town centre of Unterseen. But it's only 10 mins walk to the main centre or the West station. There are bars & shops nearby, which are cheaper than those in the centre, and it is quieter and easier to park here.
We received good advice from the owners regarding tourist attractions and travel advice, and they can book tickets for you. There were serious floods in the area when we stayed and much of Interlaken was affected; we could not leave town for a few days because roads were closed by mud-slides. Our travel company rep was hopeless, but the hotel staff gave us excellent advice and kept us up to date regarding weather & travel news (we were driving ourselves back to the UK so needed this information).
The owners have a few quirks; they get quite annoyed if you have food or tea-making equipment in the rooms, and dinner is served at a set time each evening. But we had no trouble, and found them really friendly; I'd put the quirks down to a little excentricity.
I thought the breakfast buffet was quite good (I disagree with some earlier reviews); plenty of bread, meats, cheeses, eggs etc. The owner personally supervises breakfast & serves the tea & coffee - he just seems to enjoy meeting the guests and getting to know everyone.
I would love to go back to this hotel, but I am not so keen to return to Interlaken or Switzerland.
Nice view
It was our first time in Switserland and we stayed at a lovely family hotel, Hotel Rossli, in Interlaken. Jean-Louis took care of us and saw that we had everything we needed. From our balcony we had a very nice view of the Jungfrau. I would really like to go back there someday.
Very clean, friendly hotel
We (2 retired adults) stayed at the Rossli for three nights in late May- early June. The weather had been unusually wet and cold - we actually arrived at the hotel around 3:00pm in a hail storm. However, the oh-so-accommodating owner made us feel warm and welcome. The small, simple hotel had small rooms that were very clean and quiet, with a balcony and great views of mountains. The hotel had plenty of parking and was close to the Interlaken West railway station and downtown shopping.
However, the beds in our room creaked noisily every time we moved. The walls were like paper ( we could hear the person next door peeing, tap water running, etc.).The bathroom had no hairdryer and the exhaust fan had a mind of its own, turning the room after a shower into a sauna. The included breakfast was very simple as compared to other hotels we stayed in on our 4 week trip.
Despite the above, the room price was very reasonable; we would recommend this little hotel to all budget-minded travellers.
Terrific Value and Very Friendly
The Interlaken tourist office helped us find this gem when we showed up late in the afternoon without a reservation. Since we had a car with us, the ample free parking on offer, plus a very reasonable nightly rate for Switzerland sealed the deal.
The location is convenient, with easy road access from the highways, a 5 minute walk to Interlaken West station, and 10 minutes from the major shopping and dining streets in town. The hotel itself is clean, well-serviced and deserving of its two-star rating. We stayed at some three-star places during the trip that weren't as nice as the Rossli. Our double room had more than enough space for two, plus a nice balcony with a view of the mountains. Service is efficient, and very friendly - we did not encounter any language difficulties in English. Breakfast was simple compared to other hotels we stayed at in Europe, but more than appropriate for its star rating - those who are satisfied with an excellent hot espresso, some croissants and a bowl of muesli won't be disappointed at all. If only motels in North America had breakfasts like this.
Overall, a friendly, charming inn offering excellent value and good convenience in Interlaken. I'd go back.
Good for the price
Nice little hotel in a good location. Owner and staff were friendky although not necessarily that helpful with tourist information, although that was probably a language thing. Breakfast was OK and our room although small for a family of 4 was clean and well furnished.
Would definitely stay there again.
Nice Little Hotel
My wife and I have stayed in the Rossli six times since 1993, our first visit. Owner John and his staff, especially Jerome, have been very nice and accommodating. When you walk in and you haven't been there for a year or so, they remember you and its just like coming home after an absence. Not fancy but clean and comfortable. Nice location.
Good one..
It was a very good experience. The host was real nice and friendly. The rooms were very comfortable (not huge but not very tiny either). The rates were pretty reasonable.Cons: Breakfast was ok, nothing special. 10 min walk from InterlakenWest & 15 min walk to info center. Activity bench not very friendly for yougsters (not a lot of info from the host side, acceptable from his stand point and age).Would definitely go back.

Hard Knock Life Living in a Postcard
We rose early in the morning in Gdansk to catch a 6 am flight to Cologne Germany where we would catch our connection to Zurich, Switzerland, where we arrived safe and sound early afternoon at the main station. We thought we would have a tight connection to our train, but being in the EU it seems you do not need to spend an hour or two in line to …
