Rossi Boutique Hotel

Snowing heavily when I arrived in St Petersburg, got a taxi. The traffic was, to put it mildly, horrific. Took over an hour to get to the hotel, really not very far, but it was very reminiscent of traffic in inner Paris. Taxi driver was great. He asked for 100 rubles less than originally stated. Perhaps felt bad about ripping me off badly. No …
... in the stomach. The wound was fatal, but Pushkin clung on to life for two days after. He was brought back to his flat where he was laid on his sofa in his study. Word quickly spread of what had happened and his flat was soon flooded by friends and family to say goodbye. To keep the flood of strangers who also showed up informed, one of his friends scrawled "Pushkin" in charcoal on the door of the ...
... I can’t see any this time.
The fortress occupies Hare Island and as you cross the bridge there’s a grey hare perched on top of a pile. I thought it was a kangaroo at first but later realised it’s true identity when told I was actually on Hare Island. Tourists chucking money at it trying to land coins at its feet – presumably for good luck.

... The palace is very opulent and decorated in gold everywhere. The gold you see in the photos is all real gold leaf. Sergei arrived right at 11am and out we went to see the city in the Merc driven by Victor.
We drove around and Sergei shared his vast knowledge of the city, pointing out important buildings and monuments and their relevant history.
Our first stop ...

I LOVED the hotel.. but the restaurant was a rip-off with surly service...
The room was really nice, original, good hot water (important), free wi-fi that worked well (equally important). Careful about taking advice about restaurants from the staff - the one I was recommended locally was either closed or closed-down!
So, the restaurant on the other hand was a rip-off (I hadn't intended to eat there, as you can see above, but...), with surly service, ok food, and really really pricey.
