Friday 11 Sep 15 – Xiamen

Arrived in Xiamen (~Zowmin) right on time at 7am to a rather smoggy morning – but fine. Had to get moving early as we had to be ready to leave the ship for our tour of Xiamen at 7am, so breakfast was at 6am and a 5:30am wakeup. The port is about 2 hours up a river estuary and this is done at slow speed, particularly given the size of the ship.

... houses for their outstanding selection of Chinese teas. One thing that became obvious quickly inside the real China is that English speaking people, outside major hotels, is hard to find so it is often a very amusing interaction as you negotiate prices in the side streets.
Overall we were extremely impressed at how advanced, clean and developed Xiamen is relative to both our expectations.
Back to the South China Sea for a full day at sea on to Shanghai! ...

... actually cross the road, well that was fun!!! We managed to not be run down by pushbikes, motorbikes, cars, taxis, buses and trucks!! And I forgot all the pedestrians that just barge through anyway!
Once we got to the Temple entrance, our tour leader said we could either do our own thing or he will explain along the way so we decided that would be better. The first area had a few ponds and they had fish and so many turtles of all sizes. The first main ...
