CRUISING DAY - Durnstein / Wachau / Melk
Today we left the big city behind and entered the picturesque countryside of Austria.
The day began with a walking tour of the very picturesque and tiny fairy tale village of Durnstein this morning. It was frosty as we began the walk from the ship. English King Ric*************heart was imprisoned in the Kuenringer Castle in 1192/3 coming ...
... everywhere, people were bathing in mud, there was rubbish everywhere, no showers and it seemed like people there never stopped partying. It was a pretty interesting experience. We considered leaving early because we'd kind of had enough after a few days but we ended up riding it out.
Also, on a side-note, we went into town in Sankt Polten one of the festival days to have lunch and walked past a site that was fenced off. ...
... for breakfast, no milk but they can only blame themselves for that oversight?
By the time we got to our first target, the giant Melk Abbey, they actually call it a Stift for some reason, the rain had stopped . After a good hour walking through this amazing building we were all dry, the sun was out and we were happy again
This Baroque abbey was built in the early 1700's . The church its self has got heaps of frescos and a lot of gold and an impressive library ...
So the day starts. We arrive at a cute little village called Durnstien. Made it to the top of the hill to the castle...had to show off our physical prowess. Oh my goodness Liz didn't manage to buy a Santa but we did make up for it by buying some jam doughnuts. Rest of the morning was spent on board just cruising along the valley snapping thousands of pictures of the cute ...
... back to Belgium where we will stay for the night and then skate the next day in Leuven. After the session we will head back to France and back to the UK. This trip has been fantastic and the boys have been so well behaved, kept great attitude and had a great experience. Lets be honest who would not want to travel as a team, train each day, play games and meet new people along the way. It's been one hell of a experience for everyone ...
