Odd day, really. We were all very excited about boarding the ship and starting our cruise, but having to pack, check out of the hotel, get the luggage to the ship (walking and pulling our cases across the road) and go through all the necessary form filling, etc sort of took the edge off - a bit. Today we slept in quite late (surprisingly...) and got up at about half eleven. We headed pretty much straight out, and as Rach and Ste were going to show us some sights. Heading out of their driveway, which is the steepest slope on earth, we hit the road and headed down to Brown's Bay, which is the nearest beach to their house and only about a five minute drive away at most. ... to Connor's school for the annual house concert. It was nice to meet more local people and see Connor's school which was lovely! And the concert was really low key but the talent was just incredible. The boys (not just from NZ but also islanders too - Samoa and Tonga mainly) sang and played instruments, a mixture of modern and old. ... It was a long but scenic drive. As we left the town of Pahia, we were to get our final fix of Jazz and Blues, as there was free street performers throughout the town along the beachfront. We wound our windows down as we drove through, with one band gently mixing in with the next. The main highway (if you can call it that) which connects the main towns and villages is a windy road, which twists and curls around the rugged coastline, through beautiful lush green forests ...
