... thought we may have to settle. We asked one guy, "The Car King", if we could take a Ford Ranger to be tested by the AA the next morning but he told us “you can’t trust them, they find fault with everything”. He then gave us a spiel about how the guy who owned it was a mechanic for a big racing team and serviced the car every second week. We figured it probably had a lot of problems if he had to do so much on it, so we walked away.

While all this was going on ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa whatthedeuce... some real soul food, greens and okra and such, not to mention sometimes-interesting British pies. Sausages are also big here, they calling ‘Russian’ what we’d call ‘Polish.’ I wonder what they Poles and Russians themselves call them, probably ‘hot dog.’ No, this is no country for old men, but still I almost dare someone to make a move on penniless me now, just so I can throw a punch, almost but not quite. My best ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa hardiek... to have some Au Bon Pain breakfast. Amy and I got a croissant, yogurt, water, and coffee. This was our most expensive breakfast of the trip at $11. Afterward we did a little duty free shopping, and then proceeded to the security line. There were 2 flights taking off around this time. The SAA flight to Jo'burg and the El Al flight to Tel Aviv. This was not the best ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa dc314... to stun us all when we slowly but surely managed to have the strongest shot (85%) & we have on good authority the worst drink ever, with the worst consequences (hangovers) - STRAW RUM! We then staggered home singing Celtic songs & resumed our places at the in-house bar. The next day was obviously spend indoors relaxing & taking in the last days of the South African sun. Having fully recovered from the heavy session a couple of days ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa robbiedinho... to Cotlands, these relatively disadvantaged kids have every opportunity to lead successful, fulfilling lives full of love, hope and happiness. So anyway, before I get any more deep and meaningful, I should concentrate on telling you how incredible it was for Kirilee and I to volunteer for Cotlands during our big around-the-world trip.... even if it was only for a few weeks. A bit of background first. With it's headquarters in south Johannesburg, Cotlands has grown ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa mattersdorff... Once that once done, we met with our families for a snack at the airport food court. Saying goodbye is never an easy thing to do. Those last words, exchanging of letters, hugs and kisses made it feel so unbelievable that we were finally on our way. It's 18:30 and we were sitting on the plane waiting for the take off, we chatted about how excited we were but yet how surreal it all seemed. The ...
Johannesburg, South Africa jbadventure... cross into their property to continue to track the lions. I thought that was interesting, since I know we'd crossed property lines on other drives and didn't remember hearing him ask for permission. I found out later that although the various properties have traversing rights, they are generally not permitted to traverse in the first hour of each game drive, to avoid spoiling any tracks that may be there and to give that property's vehicles the best chance at any sightings ...
Johannesburg, South Africa hlgunst... Joburg for another couple of days and went to Soweto Township too. There are various pictures up on ringo, I'll try and write what most of them are of if I have time. It was all very interesting and a bit of an insight into how people around there live.

On Monday I went on my safari and had a really good four days. There was a nice group of people and the place where we camped ...
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa vickicooper... enjoy culinary experiences. Some of the things we did not manage to do in Jo-burg this time, although I've heard they are great experiences (have to leave it for the next time): - visiting the Cradle of Mankind and Lesedi cultural village (apparently very interesting), - Apartheid museum and the Soweto township. Anyway, coming back to South Africa is a must because just one day in Cape Town is definitely not enough.. the Table Mountain and wineries are still waiting;-)
Johannesburg, South Africa tommnow... at Augrabies Falls, on the Namibian boarders the falls were just lovely although the water was very low as it has been so dry in South Africa lately. And, to my delight, the place was filled with Dassies (which turned out to be nowhere near as cute and cuddly as I had thought, and they all seemed to have a certain lemming tendancy as they flung themsleves from roof tops and high trees into our path). We stayed in the Augrabies National Park in a sweet little ...
