Today we decided to catch a train down to the Dubai marina - it's actually very cheap for public transport in Dubai, for a day pass for all zones and for both of us it only cost 32 dirham which is about $9 Australian. And we certainly made the most of our train ticket :-).
By the way the train system here is WAY more impressive than Melbourne...I know many people think it's improving, but seriously Dubai do it well. The train stations ...

The only thing we can determine is they felt partially responsible for us missing the flight because they had not informed us or checked for the reciprocity fee payment in Osaka, where we would have had enough time to do the online fee and have it printed for Dubai. But we leave the room with smiles on our faces, as our wish to see Dubai will at least be granted for one day.
