      Driving to York today with Ruth and Charlie we stopped to view Hadrian's Wall at two locations. Maps 1-2. An 83 year old woman riding nearby said that on a clear day you can see it to the horizon. Running virtually from coast to coast we realise the Romans were making a serious effort to keep the Scots out of their domain. Not a lot has changed in 2000 years has it.       All the way back in Liverpool, I commented that Manchester would be the last 'one night stand'. I had quite forgotten that I have a night in York.       ... over and during the Norman conquest it sustained large damage which is still present. It has large walls encasing the city center and vehicles have limited use inside the walls. I thanked the driver, checked in and laid all my wet clothes out to dry before having an early night.
