... is, by far, hands down, much more awe-inspiring. One can see where John slept (makes the wooden pew look comfy) and exactly where he stood to write the Apocalypse. We had the afternoon to explore Patmos, a smallish Island with some nice shops and tavernas. Our tummies had settled enough to attempt some Greek food however beer was not appealing at all! John the Apostle is thought to have been on Patmos when he received a vision from Jesus, and hence the island is on the Christian Pilgrimage route.

Dinner that night was a traditional Greek feast on board and we were treated with some Greek ...

... surrounds this monastery; we walked through narrow alleyways flanked by more whitewashed houses - but of quite different architecture to those on Santorini. Murray and I opted to walk back down to the village of Skala, the walkway was built from stones - like cobbles but very undulating - we had to watch every step - it was still worth the walk though. Rain set in during the late afternoon, hopefully it will be all over ...

... Israel to this post and will try and add some pics from last night later on this afternoon (forgot my phone cord in the cabin!).

**** Update - more pictures added since I'm currently enjoying free wifi in a cafe in Patmos! I also tried to add 4 video clips - hopefully they will work. Two from the orchestra in Ephesus and two from the crew welcome last night on the pier.****

... the Roman emperor. While here (2 years) he lived in a cave and wrote the Book of Revelations. We got to visit the cave, which is now a chapel. We also visited the monastery built in 1088 where currently 40 monks reside. The role of the monastery over the centuries was to create manuscripts, the oldest date back to 941AD. Besides the actual Orthodox Church there we toured their extensive museum of religious icons, jewelry and vestments dating back to 1088. We ...
