      ... setting sail on Thursday at about 5pm.

      On arrival at Marco Polo airport we collected our luggage and after purchasing bus tickets took the number 5 bus for the short 10 minute journey to the small town of Campalto, 5 miles or so outside Venice. 200 metres after alighting from the bus we were checking in to Hotel Antica Fenice for our over night stay.

      We were going to have a wander and perhaps find a nice trattoria but due to the heavy down ...

      ... station – even though a short distance it was pouring with rain!

      We then went for a wander and saw some sights – with most (other) tourists cowering in the rain.

      And both David and I bought a bag – me a PURPLE one and DCD a large dark brown overnight bag. And they are both from a Florence maker – not a Chinese franchise – or so we hope.

      Oh last night I had the most delicious Sword Fish Carpaccio!

      ... There is a boat that passes every 10 minutes and goes from the train station to San Marcos (and further). This transport stops on all main attractions along the city. We found it very useful. It is not cheap, but is better than a water taxi or similar services. Our hotel, hotel del Porto, was everything that we expected and needed.
