The guide was great and introduced us to many sights including the Church of St Ignatious of Loyola which included a huge fake painted dome - when you are building a church and run out of money you have to improvise.       ... of cars coming down this road I decided to continue up the pass in hope that the "closed" sign was wrong.

      The road made its way up through a few old and wonderful streets of ancient Italian towns which certainly made it interesting but eventually there was a barrier across the road with a notice on it saying "Road closed, trespassers will be fined" and so it was back down the way I had just come all the way to Bormio.

      26.10.14 Left Schwangau today and drove through Austria with snow all around us and to the Waldheim Hotel in the Valle Di Casies in the heart of the Dolomites. There is snow all around us but the roads are clear. It is a really picturesque area, not much to do except admire the scenery.
