Obersaxen, Switzerland acgwhaleWe continued on the roadbook without too much of a problem, driving through some really pretty towns and villages. We stopped at a post office, to get stamps, just in case the postcard shops didn't sell them. The change we got in Liechtenstein came in handy here! The route took us into a small town which had a Subaru dealer, so we stopped for a few bingo card photos. As we drove away from there, we saw a ...
Landquart, Switzerland dirtyweekendersSo, Liechtenstein. the smallest country in Europe. We got stooped at the border, and asked for our passports, and what we were doing there. No problems though, and we were soon on our way.

We were almost immediately at the Capital city, Vaduz. We were definitely not going to miss the chance to do the postcards etc. So we looked for somewhere to park. We drove around a bit and ...
Vaduz, Vaduz, Liechtenstein dirtyweekendersWork has been quite slow lately so since I had nothing better to do today, I took a train to Sargans, Switzerland, and then waited for a bus to Vaduz, Liechtenstein. I missed the bus that left 4 minutes after I arrived. By missed, I mean I couldn't find it until I saw it driving past me. And there are only two or three bus stands in Sargans at the train station, so it was completely due to a lack of intelligence on my part.

Once I ...
Vaduz, Liechtenstein travelingdiva... a souvineer than anything else, but hey, it's a valid country!! (The only stamp I accumulated this trip as Switzerland doesn't really stamp anything, and for getting back into Germany I have a visa already!). Next was to find the royal family castle. It's on the side of the mountain round town, and had a nice little trail up to it with informative signs, telling about the country of Lichtenstein. The castle itself was less than impressive, it's actually ...
Vaduz, Liechtenstein elizabessieAfter our day off we next went by train down along the Rhine Valley past the Canton of Appenzelle and the Finance Capital, Vaduz in Leichenstein. Vaduz and the Principality lies high on the side of the mountain which forms the border with Austria. Apart from the distant mountains this part of our journeys was I should say the least striking in scenic wonderment!!
Vaduz, Vaduz, Liechtenstein ankorjuglor... the raging torrent (we now knew why it was raging!) we alighted and explored some more of the delights of the Old Town area with the numerous National and Cantonal Flags waving at us from every corner! We found the city's cathedral, busily being restored inside. Non the less a delightful worshipping place. Then we found the most wonderful graveyard I think I have ever come across. Gravestones crammed in very close to each other but ...
Chur, Graubünden, Switzerland ankorjuglor... Boxing Day Racing etc.. During late June it proved somewhat damp for us! It rained on us, but then it seems to rain in the early evening in the mountains!
The return route following the Engadine river as pleasant an experience as the rest of the day trip to Poschiavo.
St. Moritz, Graubünden, Switzerland ankorjuglor... surprise around every corner you turn. I found a small (really out of the way) cemetery, apparently Jewish. I went back to get Bev so she could see it, too. I got some great shots. (Shirley should be happy.)

The time to head back to Davos came all too soon. Once again, we traveled the back roads, this time by bus, and the scenery was just as awesome as it was on our train trip coming up this morning. We traveled up to the 6,000 ft. level, up and down and all around the ...
St. Moritz, Swiss Alps, Switzerland pemalak... to help rescue them.

Well, it’s about 8:50 p.m. and I’ve been up for about 33 hours. Tomorrow we have a day off, we’ll stay in Davos and walk around. I’m starting to be concerned that Davos is maybe just a little too large for us to tackle, but we’ll see.

8/29/99 Sunday

DavosWe woke up to a sunny, chilly morning.
