We woke up this morning to find ourselves just coming into Palma de Mallorca. Mallorca is the largest of the four Ballearic Islands – part of Spain and Palma is the capital. Very pretty little city and extremely well organized cruise ship dock – with ramps like at an Airport that you use to get yourselves into a covered walkway that takes you to the exit where you can pick up taxis or a bus into the town – ...
Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain suzanne-norman... out. It takes awhile to moor the yacht stern to, (the back end up against the dock) and to get out all the fenders (large air filled pads that keep the boats from rubbing up against each other and to setup the passarelle (like a long plank that is motorized with hand rails on each side). By the time we were able to go to shore we were dressed and ready. Several of the crew members had been here before so they were our guides to finding the dance clubs ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands mylifesjourneyJust south of the town of Portocristo are the Cuevas del Drach, which are really four caves all connected to each other. This cave however has a large lake in it, called Martel Lake. It's large enough to ride a boat in and to see all the stalactites hanging from the ceiling. It’s a beautiful place ...
Porto Cristo, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands mylifesjourney... waded around in the surf or fell back to sleep on the beach. It was good to get rehydrated after all the alcohol and dancing from last night. It was a nice relaxing afternoon with a beautiful beach view with several other yachts in the bay and a parade of nude or topless people walking by.

One of the girls met a guy on the beach. They spent a few hours chatting and getting to know each other. It was ...
Colònia de Sant Jordi, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourney... from Germany. Good music, dancing starts up. We leave at 1:30 to catch the last bus. I am relying on my roommate who is totally confident about the schedule. Well, we wait with others but find out the last bus left awhile back. We need to find a cab which is difficult since everyone is trying to get to a bar/club somewhere. We finally get one. A late night by my standards but just starting to get going. My back could not take any more.
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.travellerBreakfast is provided at the hostel. Coffee, juice, toast and cereal (cornflakes or cocoa puffs). It serves the purpose.

I go to the Palma city center (20 minutes by bus). The historic area is OK. Cathedral is beautiful and there is a Moorish castle. Most of the city lacks character. So, this is pretty much a beach island although I understand there are some nice hikes in its more remote hills.

A ...

He is 24, in Mallorca for a week to get away from it all. A very nice guy. He had met a woman from Slovakia which keeps him busy during much of my stay.

Dialects of Spanish make it much harder for a novice. I learned Playa for beach in Spanish while in Mallorca it is Platja. Even names of places Mallorca vs Majorca, Ibiza vs Eivissa. This part of Spain speaks Catalan, a ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.traveller...
Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain urlaubsreisen... 8217;t much to see in Palma the bus did take me up to Castle Bellver where I was able to have a nice look down on the city and waterfront. Being a little churched out from my time in Italy I still had to visit Palma’s landmark cathedral and one of the more impressive I’ve been to on the trip, especially since Gaudi put his mark on it with a funky designed chapel. The city had just enough to keep me occupied for an afternoon ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands phileus_fogg...
