There is a tunnel that the public buses take through the mountain which is faster, but you don't get the views. Marble Mountain was interesting. There were some Buddha statues, pagodas and caves. ... We cycled right into the centre of Hue, a modest city of 340,000 people and the capital of Vietnam from 1802 till Ho Chi Minh`s take over in 1945.

In the 1968 Tet Offensive there was fierce fighting here and many thousands were massacred.

Tomorrow we take the overnight train to Hanoi and go straight on to Ha Long Bay
