    Getting pricey

Have been staying here a couple of times a year for about 9 years now. Hotel is always clean, comfortable and welcoming. Rooms are quite large and well appointed. Fan rooms are a bit run down but aircon rooms have recently undergone a tidy up process. Our room had been decorated but I have to say with cheap accessories. Will probably continue to stay here when we pass through Khon Kaen but at 600Bht it is starting to price itself too high for a provincial town.

Wake up with the alarm at 05:00 and Jai steams the rice whilst I make a cuppa then load up the bike. Only a small bag for clothes etc but a second case is full of books to sell/exchange somewhere.
Get to Phon Thong about 6:30 and after checking the house where we leave the bike I drop Jai and bags off at the bus station before returning to …

This project will happen (fingers crossed) next weekend, assuming the focus group that was supposed to take place last night can happen on Monday evening and we have all the data that we need to design the one-day project. I am really excited to get to work directly with community members on this project! As much as I loved Thailand this semester, I was pretty disappointed ...

Today, I spent the day writing a research paper that is due right after our program gets back from Laos and preparing for a Thai conversation that I have to do tomorrow for a ...

I have never slept so much, not sure if it's the humidity, (fortunately not too hot now) or the assault on the senses that is........ Khon Kaen. Crossing the road is a challenge, it's a melee of cars, scooters buses and tuk tuks, no priority for the pedestrian, even walking on the pavements is a hazard, but there's no " Where there's blame there's a claim" culture here. 5 star hotels sit side ...

    Quck stop in Khon Kaen

... up along a street that was closed off with lanterns strung above.  The stuff that the people was selling was all really original too.  Often at markets the stalls are just selling the same thing again and again but not at Khon Kaen.  It was great!  We saw things we hadn't seen before and it seemed to go on for ages.  The only reason we stopped our wandering was because the road became blocked off as people crowded around to watch a Muay ...
