      Decent value hotel

We have stayed here many times over the last 10 years and it has always been reliable. The fan only rooms leave a little to be desired on presentation and cleanliness but are still good value - I guess. The air con rooms have changed over the years. At first they were good, then they too became a bit shabby but about 18months ago they underwent a refurbishment that has brought them back to a good level. Our bathroom needed a bit of TLC but the room was spotless, large, light and airy with a very big bed, cable TV, fridge, etc Last year this room was priced at 600Bht which I thought was stretching things for small provincial town but this year it has returned to 500Bht per night. Decent value and would recommend this hotel.

      Getting pricey

Have been staying here a couple of times a year for about 9 years now. Hotel is always clean, comfortable and welcoming. Rooms are quite large and well appointed. Fan rooms are a bit run down but aircon rooms have recently undergone a tidy up process. Our room had been decorated but I have to say with cheap accessories. Will probably continue to stay here when we pass through Khon Kaen but at 600Bht it is starting to price itself too high for a provincial town.

Wake up with the alarm just before 05:00 and finish packing the last few things we will need for just the one night away. With breakfast over we leave Khamnadie about 06:00 and bike into Phon Thong in the half light. I make the mistake of looking directly at the golden orb that is appearing over the trees and then have to ride blind for a few …

Over the course of the ten days, we both managed a lot of soul searching, learning things about ourselves, about being in a community, a shared consciousness, about respect for others and for different beliefs, along with making some valuable friendships. Christian was an inspiration, a visionary, with such an approachable and king demeaner that would put anyone at ease. We didn't get ...

I realized the other day that since entering Vietnam a few weeks ago, I had largely stuck to places on the backpacker circuit - established cities with attractions, decent accommodations, easy transportation, and lots of English speaking locals. I decided it was time to see real Thailand, and to do that I put my finger on a Google map of the country and asked a Thai-speaking man to tell me what the name of the town was.
