      Decent value hotel

We have stayed here many times over the last 10 years and it has always been reliable. The fan only rooms leave a little to be desired on presentation and cleanliness but are still good value - I guess. The air con rooms have changed over the years. At first they were good, then they too became a bit shabby but about 18months ago they underwent a refurbishment that has brought them back to a good level. Our bathroom needed a bit of TLC but the room was spotless, large, light and airy with a very big bed, cable TV, fridge, etc Last year this room was priced at 600Bht which I thought was stretching things for small provincial town but this year it has returned to 500Bht per night. Decent value and would recommend this hotel.

      Getting pricey

Have been staying here a couple of times a year for about 9 years now. Hotel is always clean, comfortable and welcoming. Rooms are quite large and well appointed. Fan rooms are a bit run down but aircon rooms have recently undergone a tidy up process. Our room had been decorated but I have to say with cheap accessories. Will probably continue to stay here when we pass through Khon Kaen but at 600Bht it is starting to price itself too high for a provincial town.

Wake up with the alarm just before 05:00 and finish packing the last few things we will need for just the one night away. With breakfast over we leave Khamnadie about 06:00 and bike into Phon Thong in the half light. I make the mistake of looking directly at the golden orb that is appearing over the trees and then have to ride blind for a few …

Saksay is picking Erik up with his scooter tomorrow morning at 7am to go to an outdoor market to buy some food. One of the girls might go for a drive with him in the afternoon, the rest of us will go to the gym and possibly swimming if the pool opens as scheduled tomorrow. Then we'll all go for the evening walk to find some supper ...

Up to that point I haven't even seen a wild snake in Thailand... It was quick- so I better keep my eye out. We have a gigantic Wolf Spider living in one of our bathrooms. It is also very quick, but luckily doesn''t move too much and ...

I thank Mother Nature it was over by the time we had to hike back down to the center with our backpacks to check out this morning. The next mission is to get to Siem Reap in Cambodia but it might take a few buses and stops as there is no direct way to get there from here in Pak ...

... Phitsanulok. From BLES, Pee Kam took me to the Uttradit bus station (1 hour). Indeed, I learned that only second class buses leave there for Khon Kaen and that the trip is long and arduous. I got on a bus to Phitsanulok (which leave frequently and only take about 2 hours.) When I got to Phitsanulok I learned that there are 2 first class buses (but no VIP buses) to Khon Kaen each day. They were both full but I could get a second class bus (no toilet) for the 6 to 8 hour ...
