      Decent value hotel

We have stayed here many times over the last 10 years and it has always been reliable. The fan only rooms leave a little to be desired on presentation and cleanliness but are still good value - I guess. The air con rooms have changed over the years. At first they were good, then they too became a bit shabby but about 18months ago they underwent a refurbishment that has brought them back to a good level. Our bathroom needed a bit of TLC but the room was spotless, large, light and airy with a very big bed, cable TV, fridge, etc Last year this room was priced at 600Bht which I thought was stretching things for small provincial town but this year it has returned to 500Bht per night. Decent value and would recommend this hotel.

      Getting pricey

Have been staying here a couple of times a year for about 9 years now. Hotel is always clean, comfortable and welcoming. Rooms are quite large and well appointed. Fan rooms are a bit run down but aircon rooms have recently undergone a tidy up process. Our room had been decorated but I have to say with cheap accessories. Will probably continue to stay here when we pass through Khon Kaen but at 600Bht it is starting to price itself too high for a provincial town.

Wake up with the alarm just before 05:00 and finish packing the last few things we will need for just the one night away. With breakfast over we leave Khamnadie about 06:00 and bike into Phon Thong in the half light. I make the mistake of looking directly at the golden orb that is appearing over the trees and then have to ride blind for a few …

... games for easter including a huge water fight.  After church we drove to the Makro store that the Byers told us sells cheese at an affordable price. Something we are really missing as its 3 times the price as in Canada anywhere else. Well we had a very successful shopping trip! We worked great as a team finding the best deals on groceries. We ended up purchasing $300 in food. Which is enough food to last for a month. We have been spending $300 a week at the food stalls. ...

... greatest 65km/h < > downhill run. Half way down the road had deteriorated and you had to hang on for grim death. All survived ok and then we had another 11km before getting on the bus to our motel, the last one in Thailand. Our hotel this night, Napalai, looked like the scene of a Thai Bus convention, with dozens of coaches crammed into the carpark. The lobby was also very busy, however in no time at all we had our bags and the room key. The ...

Yesterday, July 4th, marked exactly 4 years since the day Zach and I met. We both remember that day very well and because we are both independent souls our 4th of July's are special days of celebrating Independence. It is strange how much more American I feel while living in Thailand. The other day I saw Zach and I in one of the stores cameras and thought that we looked extra American compared to usual... Maybe that's because of the way we ...

... is over quickly and is quite painless. I leave with an extension of stay till 28th November by which time we will be in Chiangmai and a day trip up to Burma will be required.
We taxi back into town to the Chaipat Hotel which we have decided to try out as an alternative to our usual hotel in town. The reception area seems OK which is always a good sign and we view a couple of rooms before making a choice and deciding that we would stay. They ...
