    Decent value hotel

We have stayed here many times over the last 10 years and it has always been reliable. The fan only rooms leave a little to be desired on presentation and cleanliness but are still good value - I guess. The air con rooms have changed over the years. At first they were good, then they too became a bit shabby but about 18months ago they underwent a refurbishment that has brought them back to a good level. Our bathroom needed a bit of TLC but the room was spotless, large, light and airy with a very big bed, cable TV, fridge, etc Last year this room was priced at 600Bht which I thought was stretching things for small provincial town but this year it has returned to 500Bht per night. Decent value and would recommend this hotel.

    Getting pricey

Have been staying here a couple of times a year for about 9 years now. Hotel is always clean, comfortable and welcoming. Rooms are quite large and well appointed. Fan rooms are a bit run down but aircon rooms have recently undergone a tidy up process. Our room had been decorated but I have to say with cheap accessories. Will probably continue to stay here when we pass through Khon Kaen but at 600Bht it is starting to price itself too high for a provincial town.

Wake up with the alarm just before 05:00 and finish packing the last few things we will need for just the one night away. With breakfast over we leave Khamnadie about 06:00 and bike into Phon Thong in the half light. I make the mistake of looking directly at the golden orb that is appearing over the trees and then have to ride blind for a few …

    No Love Lost in Laos

Roughly 11 hours after I fell asleep I woke up in Laos. The bulges on my face had morphed in my sleep to the shape of my pillow. The skin surrounding my eye was now a sack of darkness hanging from my face like I was some kind of basset hound. Weirdly enough I felt pretty good. The rest had been a long time coming. We headed downstairs for breakfast at about 10 only to discover that there was nothing left for us. Instead ...

... is a big savings for us. These savings will help offset the amount we've gone over budget on accomodations. We didn't realize it was cash only, until we got to the till, so we were holding our breath, putting our best bargain items through first inc ase we didn't have enough cash. Ended up we had about $12 left , just enough! Phew! We are almost out of cash now and we'll need to find a bank.  We had a lot of fun there it's very similar to Costco. We spent 3 hours shopping! ...

... greatest 65km/h < > downhill run. Half way down the road had deteriorated and you had to hang on for grim death. All survived ok and then we had another 11km before getting on the bus to our motel, the last one in Thailand. Our hotel this night, Napalai, looked like the scene of a Thai Bus convention, with dozens of coaches crammed into the carpark. The lobby was also very busy, however in no time at all we had our bags and the room key. The ...

... they face. The area where homes are in Lao Nadee used to be used for farming projects done in collaboration with the local university. However, since the projects were unsuccessful, villagers started building homes on the land, and since this was considered trespassing, the police were ordered to arrest them. However, the villagers fought back and have never left the land for thirteen years since that occurred. In one month, the villagers will get the official land lease ...
