... the infrastructure therefore it is incredibly crowded, there are water shortages and the rubbish is just shoved into open holes so that the dogs can recycle the edible foods (there were no under-fed dogs in Darjeeling and there were a LOT of dogs) and then the rubbish is collected by hand each morning... as in a man shovels it out by hand and it is then split into other recyclables by hand, this does mean by the end of each day there is the stink of ...

... would be to flag another Darjeeling bound jeep for all of us and then give the money we paid to the new driver. Instead, he discretely hopped on to an inbound jeep - presumably to get more help from his driving buddies - and abandoned all of us on the side of the road in traffic with his broken vehicle (!) First of all it is built on the side of a cliff and, predictably, all the budget accommodation is at the top of that cliff - not great when you've just arrived and have got 12 kilos on your back!
