... our awesome double decker hotel room and then were given some free time to explore the town. It was a cute little town that was small and (obviously) filled with coffee shops, boutiques, gelato, and religious souvenirs. It was raining a little so Mairin and I did not explore too much but we did go out to see the view of the beautiful city. We also chose to walk in a direction which the road lead us to basically nowhere so ...

The drive to and from Florence was absolutely beautiful and even though we stuck to the main roads most of the time we were still treated to an abundance of the Tuscan beauty that we are all familiar with from the iconic pictures of the Italian countryside. It is just amazing.

      Impressions of Assisi

A travel blog entry by travellingshoes on Aug 13, 2014

      1. For some reason Richard had wanted to pop in here - we had debated whether we would - totally glad we did. 2. Being quite amazed as we drove in at the size of the church do Assisi and the town perched on the top of a hill (now there is a surprise!). 3. The contrast between the simplicity of Assisi (giving everything up for the poor) and the scale of the church built in his "honour" 4. Our crazy GPS leading us along some tiny narrow lanes just to get out of Assisi to the main road ...
