... wouldn’t it. In order to leave Ålborg in an easterly directon, there are in fact two bridges to negotiate, within a few hundred metres of each other. The first, the railway bridge, will open when they see you, provided there is no train due within 15 minutes. We decided to try for it at 09:25 and indeed, it was open but is shut within a couple of minutes of our passing through. We were then effectively trapped between the two bridges and had ...

... interspersed with more modern structures but somehow the character of the buildings are preserved. We enjoyed our walk around the town but the draw of a couple of hours lounging about in the sun on the back of the boat proved too great so after a while and having completed, more or less the two walks, we headed back. ... is so common in this part of the world, we love it.

We got to the old quarries but in truth, there was not much to see apart from one residual piece of rock that they’d left behind to illustrate the bandings. Further down the hill (Julie walked) and up a little and we were on the edge of the crumbling cliffs but by now, it was spitting with rain and thoughts of getting home became pressing. We decided to travel along the cliff path on ...

... the buoy and the opposite end to the pontoon. So far so good. Unfortunately however, the alignment of the pontoons with available spaces relative to the wind, was such that the wind came at right angles, so that as soon as Julie got the buoy hooked (from the stern and walked it forward to the bow (we were reversing in)) the stern began to head downwind. This is where it is good to have helpful people on shore to catch the shore lines, which three chaps ...
