... friendly streets.
When most people think of Nuremberg, they think of the trials. Unfortunately we were unable to visit Courtroom 600 because the trial memorial isn’t going to be finished until 2010, but also because the room is still used for proceedings to this day. Instead, on our first day, we walked through the town’s squares, saw a religious demonstration and debate that was even more ...
... or visa versa. We got to go though the house to see how they lived back in their day. At the end of the tour, we were taken to the workshop and shown which elements made certain colors, then got to watch a demonstration of a lady making art.
After the tour of the house, we hurried to the toy museum that was just down the street. We had less than an hour to explore the 4 floor museum, but we ended up making the time stretch as long as we could, goofing off every chance we got (we ...
... The New Palace contained a huge rose garden and had a great view of the city. During our free time Jack, Suzanne and I wandered around town admiring the architecture. We stopped at a snack shop where I had a large soft pretzel and Coke for only 1.69 euros. Cheapest purchase I’ve made yet. Usually a Coke costs at least 2 euros ($3).
We were back on ship for a late lunch and passed time watching the countryside slide by and going through locks.
... and took buses to Nuremberg. We visited the Zeppelin Field where the big Nazi Rallies were held and the Hall of Justice where the Nuremberg Trials took place. Bought a souvenir pin at Market Square and had cokes at a bistro while waiting for the bus to take us back to the ship.
... and romantic towns we have been in. There are a lot of parks, churches, a palace, a monastery and of course, the 9 breweries.
Our hostel let us take 2 bikes from their shed and we rode into town. The first day we wondered all around town and saw the basics that we always start with and went to the monastery that looks over the city for some great views. They have a neighborhood called Little Venice that is a bunch of ...
... There was even an ex hab on the team (Andre Nasredine) who scored a goal for us! To make the night even better we won 6-2 with some awesome goals and awesome saves!
Very happy with our decision to return to Nuremburg for the hockey game we left the following morning for Vienna. It was a long trip so we cut it in half and spent a night in Linz, Austria. Another gorgeous place to pass right on through!
... has to offer. We bought a spatula (scrambled eggs) and some fruits!
So we have had brautwurst and currywurst and everywurst possible in the past few days! We decided to splurge and went to a snazzy Chinese restaurant for supper! This is only worth mentioning because I ate the biggest most delicious eggroll I have ever had ever!
We will be coming back to Nuremberg but for now on to Stuttgart!!!!
... christmas’ed out! In the meantime it is wonderful, although I can’t help missing friends and family a little bit.
Late in the evening we go out to another local hangout where another K grad, Pete, is visiting from where he lives in Bonn. This country is crawling with Kalamazoo people and I feel right at home bringing up some old K stories and drinking some local Erlanger bier.
In the morning I grab the cheapest train back ...
After a farewell dinner at Max und Moritz, a great German food place right near our apts in Kreuzberg, with a yummy dish of spatzle in my tummy, I was packing up for a few days stay with my father's friend from work in his hometown of Erlangen! The airport Tegel in Berlin is so easy, the security/check-in/departure is all in the same place, so although I was barely on-time due to a bus being skipped (I waited with a group of 30-some others for a bus, the sign said ...
Erlangen, Germany oceanevelynAfter a couple of days of doing not much because the weather turned a bit bad tom (the roomie) Took me on a drive to see the old Nazi party rally grounds, being a tour guide I was filled in of all of the history of the place, what it's original plan was and what happened to it after the war. I can remember seeing documentaries on the Nazi party with old news films of the marches that took ...
