    ... buildings. In some cases you could see where the cladding had fallen off and there were brick walls underneath. Not sure whether the original buildings would have been entirely wooden and the cladding is put onto modern buildings to look authentic. Anyway, it was very attractive and a nice place to wander around. A few galleries and gift shops, but we weren't tempted.

    ... Jerry tried the cold soup (torrator????) like runny tzatziki in a glass to be drunk through a straw. How odd - it tasted fine, and I honestly think that if I ate it with a spoon, I'd like it. But couldn't get past drinking garlic through a straw. I guess I'm not ready for Heston yet!

    ... and went for a walk around the almost island. It's a bit like a West Country fishing village with more old churches. Very pretty, especially once away from the main tourist area round our hotel, and lots of restaurants perched above the sea. We're going to try one tonight.

    Thankfully, I don't think the season has really started because I should imagine it's jammed here in the height of summer. However, 30 American tourist have just arrived ...

    ... a lovely wander around the cobbled streets, we came across a place I had heard about and was keen to visit; the church of Sveta Bogoroditsa. Like all churches built during the Ottoman period, it was wasn't allowed to be higher than a mosque, so it was built partly below ground level; when we entered the purple flower-filled courtyard we had to go down some steps to reach the entrance.
