Breathtaking views...and heat!

Spent the whole of yesterday travelling - flight from Buffalo to Chicago then a connection to Las Vegas. Picked up my hire car (strange to be on the other side of the counter!) and drove for 5 and a half hours to Tusayan (strange to be on the other side of the road!!), just outside the Grand Canyon National Park then grabbed a microwave pizza and went to bed - exciting day! Only found myself on the wrong side of the road once and managed to correct that pretty sharpish so no harm done, phew!<...

Hey Guys...sorry it's been a while. I believe I left you in San Diego, so since then: The long drive to Tusayan, to visit the Grand Canyon was quite grueling, perhaps the worst part being the inability to escape fast food en route - it makes the UK's overpriced service stations with salad bars and balanced food seem a lot more appealing. We arrived in Tusayan at about 18:00 and checked into the very nice Red Feather Lodge. Debate then ensued whether or not to get up at 4 a.m. the next morning...

Grand Canyon

After picking up our Dodge Avenger rental car, we headed from Vegas to Lake Mead and the Hoover dam. We spent some time at the hoover dam, walked over it and had a good look. It's really high as you'd expect and the Lake is pretty too. They're building a bypass for it which was unbelievably high up. The dam straddles the border between Nevada and Arizona and the lake is the largest man-made lake in the US. After an hour or so and some lunch we drove over the dam into Arizona. The road went t...

Los Angeles, The Strip and beyond. Do you remember what time we left Fiji? Now come on! Were you paying attention? Well for those of you who have forgotten it was 11pm on the evening of Saturday 17th June, we flew for almost 11 hours, crossed the International Date Line and arrived in Los Angeles 8 hours before we'd left Fiji, 3.30 in the afternoon of the 17th. Weird we can tell you. So, Los Angeles (LA), a massive sprawling airport with numerous arrival and departure terminals, a point we wo...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Rodeway Inn Red Feather Tusayan

Ok

from A TripAdvisor Member
Although the location is very good (very close to food, IMAX and gift shops) and very safe to walk in at night we were disappointed in the hotel. We were allocated a room in the older building, which is slightly run down, compared to the newer building. The room was clean, though very basic. Breakfast was very poor. Very little seating, no cereal, no toast, only yogurts and pastries. But, if you are looking for somewhere close to the park, to simply rest your head at night, at a reasonable price, then this hotel will satisfy you.

Ok hotel

from Mist59
We stayed at the Red Feather Rodeway Inn July 2 & 3rd 2004. This was the cheapest we could find as close as possible to the Grand Canyon.

Tusayan is a tiny town with very few hotels. The Quality Hotel behind the Red Feather looked better but was more expensive.

We were in the motel part of the hotel (old part) and the room was a bit smelly (I guess because they accept dogs) and dark (not much sunshine and dark carpetting).

Breakfast was coffee, juice, yogourt and donuts (breakfast room is one of the room transformed into a breakfast room so it was rather small)

We enjoyed the small pool and the proximity of the Nt'l Park.

This hotel is worth it's 2 stars

Okay Hotel

We stayed in this hotel on July 3rd, 2004 and we found it good enough. Some of the pros and cons are as follows:

Pros:

1. Nice looking from outside.

2. Only 1.5 miles from the South rim entrance

3. Very close to all restaurants and fast food joints.

Cons:

1. Hotel has 2 parts one is the newer one (which has the reception) and the other is the older one (the original red feather lodge). The rooms are a little better in the newer hotel.

2. The complimentary breakfast is nothing more than some muffins and juice/coffee.

3. The check out line was a big one and slow, but you cannot expect anything else on a Holday weekend.

Overall it was a pleasant experience and if we dont get a hotel in the Canyon we will stay here the next time around.

Absolutely Fine

Stayed here for 1 night in May 2004. Found this hotel to be just what we were looking for and cheap as chips. The entrance to GC just a 5 min drive away and we watched the sunset on the friday night with no crowds about. This hotel is ideally situated if you wish to take a helicopter ride over the GC as the heli. airport is just 5 mins drive from the hotel, which we did on the sat. morning, just turned up and waited half an hour for our trip, which was fab and brilliant timing as we were driving back to Vegas in the late afternoon. The hotel itself is comfortable and clean. No restaurant but no probs as there are other hotels with restaurants and bars. The staff are very pleasant and chatty. Would def. stay here again.

Good Hotel

I stayed at this hotel for a night and found this place to be really nice. The rooms are quite well kept in both buildings. This property is within 2miles from the entrance to GC, its also close to eating joints, grocery store and IMAX. The hotel also offers a basic breakfast (muffins, coffee, juice, yoghurt). I really couldn't ask for more at the price. I'm planning to make another visit later this yr and would definitely stay here. A highly recommended place !!

We liked it

Affordable, basic, satisfactory, friendly.

If you can't stay Canyonside because you booked too late, as we did, this is as good a choice as any other in the just-outside-the-park group. There's also a Best Western, a Quality Inn, a Holiday Inn Express, and one or two others; they all seem much the same.

The Red Feather doesn't have a restaurant, and the deskperson directed us to the Best Western, just a short walk away. That restaurant was overflowing - it was late March, so it would be worse in summer - and steered us to the sports bar downstairs, where an overworked bartender ignored us for 15 minutes before we left. The Quality Inn just behind the Red Feather, despite the reviews on this site, does have a large and decent restaurant with a buffet that's nothing special but fair value for $15.

Hotel was oke

from Enschede
The Rodeway Inn Red Feather is a good hotel. Quiet rooms and free coffee. The staff was friendly and accurate. We had a nice room. Only the continental breakfast was a dissapointment. Only coffee and donuts.

Extremely Accomodating

from bilzbabe
We recently traveled to the Grand Canyon and upon having serious problems with our reservations at the Holiday Inn Express my husband and I went to the Rodeway Inn Red Feather. The staff at check-in were very nice, found us a room with the exact accomodations we had hoped for. The room was well appointed, very comfortable and although we were concerned that it may be a bit noisy since it was located right across the hall from the room with the complimentary breakfast, we were very pleased that we never heard a sound.... and we didn't have to go far to bring hot coffee and donuts into the room for breakfast! We were always greated with a friendly "hello" when we returned to the hotel and every time we left we were wished "a nice day" by the staff. We will certainly stay here again when we have the opportunity to go back to the Grand Canyon.

Great Place!

I have stayed at this hotel 2 times, each time was with my dog. I stayed in both buildings on property and enjoyed each stay. I plan on returning and look forward to our stay here. The rooms are very comfortable and inviting. The hotel rooms are more modern and bigger, the motor lodge rooms are a bit smaller but very economical. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are VERY clean. I definantly recomend this hotel.

Restful Stop

Stayed one night in May. Room was clean, quiet and comfortable. For the area, room was reasonably priced. We did not expect complimentary breakfast was offered, so the rolls and coffee were a pleasant surprise. Staff was courteous.
