... on. Probably a
lot of plump squirells running around town.
My last stop for this blog was Oberlin, Ohio, home of Oberlin College. A pretty and
quiet small town and campus. And all the people I met were very friendly. I recommend
stopping by if ever close. Now I am on to the Akron, Ohio area for my first National Park,
Cuyahoga. More about it next time.

I know I haven't done an update this entire summer - it's been a long, hot one, and a lot's been going on - I'm hoping to go back and post pictures here from each month's highlights. For now, here's a few photos taken during our last week at Cedarlane.

We then wound our way through the country to go past the farm house and the house in Green Springs where Grandma B. lived. While in Green Springs, we drove past the springs so the kids could see the world's largest natural sulfur springs. Disappointed we couldn't walk down near it like I did as a ...

A trip down Tim's childhood memory lane

Wow, today marks the first day of the fourth month since we left home and embarked on this crazy journey. We awoke and the kids took some time playing at the lake before we loaded up and headed out to explore Cuyahoga National Park, the last National Park to see on this particular road trip. We found the entrance to the park, eventually, and no thanks to the signage! We had to look closely and employ a few navigation skills before we finally found the entrance ...

    Don't stay here!!!

    from anonymous

We decided to stay at the Rodeway Inn because (1) they were cheap, (2) offered free breakfast (donuts and coffee) and (3) had a free shuttle to Cedar Point. We made a big mistake!!!! First of all, the light over the sink did not work, and after three complaints on three different days, it never got fixed. The shuttle to Cedar Point was not on schedule, it was over-crowded and left us stranded at Cedar Point on night because there were too many people to fit on the bus. The room was not vacuumed prior to us checking in, and there were dead bugs on the window sill. The cleaning lady left the window open one day - problem being she also left the lights on. We cam back to the room after a day at Cedar Point only to find a room full of mosquitoes and other flying insects. We reserved the room for four people, yet everyday we had to go to the front desk and ask for an extra towel (only three in the room). While checking out at 9:00am, there was no manager on duty to complain to. Do NOT stay here!!! Spend the few extra bucks and stay someplace better!!!

    Money Pit

I was not impressed with this hotel at all. The rooms are musty and the use can be seen. My room in particular had numerous spots on the floor, room 249 to be exact. Pass this one up!!!

    Do not stay here!!!!

    from anonymous

This was the worst experience of my LIFE!! Our room was triple booked after WE already checked in! We came back to our room later at night and found that management had taken it upon themselves to gather our belongings and moved them to the front lobby without our consent. They could not tell us why they did it, nor did they offer an apology. Needless to say, we did NOT stay. It would be in anyone's best interest to do the same. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

    Dumpville

    from stac719

I booked this motel through hotels.com and got a very cheap nightly rate. Well, after I prepaid in advance I read the tripadviser comments were very negative. I thought, "how bad could it be?" Well, I should have stuck with my first instinct - this place was just as bad as the reviews said. We got there late Friday night and had to wait a 1/2 hour to check in as four guests came in to complain that there were other people in their rooms. Some people even said they had strangers walking into their rooms as they were double-booking!

The room was old, there was no alarm clock and no wakeup call as the operator never answered the phone. After a long day at the park we were exhausted and wanted to take a hot shower our 2nd night there, but the maid didn't leave us any towels.

Bottom line - stay here only if you need to because of financial reasons.

    Got What I Paid For

    from anonymous

Took my sons to Cedar Point. Didn't care much about accomodations so took cheapest I could find - this place. Place is as basic as you get - 2 beds, bathroom, & TV. Thin walls. Toilet leaked, remote did not work, TV was about 30-40 years old - some stations very fuzzy, super thin (and rough) towels. Asked for wakeup call - never got it. A few donuts in the morning (if you were lucky). Didn't use the pool - spent the evenings at the Water Park. We were at the park all day, each day so we didn't care much - just wanted place to sleep. Its a dump but a cheap dump. It was bad enough that I will spend more money next time and stay at a nicer place.

    Shut it down!

    from anonymous

We reserved a non-smoking room but received a smoking room. It smelled like smoke and mildew and there were ants crawling on the bathroom floor. The dresser in the room was falling a part and there wasn't even an alarm clock. There were black nasty stains on the curtains. With all this we didn't use the pool; who knows how they maintain that!! Spend the extra $20 or $30 dollars and stay somewhere else!!!

    Horrible

    from anonymous

This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. We had to wait over 30 minutes to check in while the person at the counter was on a personal telephone call and discussing her paycheck. The showers had mildew in them, the water was yellow. The shuttle to the amusement park was 2 hours late one day, and never came the next. To top it off, our video camera was stolen from our room, so the good memories of our vacation were gone as well! When we complained to management, we were told they would talk to people but there was nothing they could do. We will NEVER stay there again.

Drive by: This place is awful!!

    from JenDalessan

We booked two rooms (connecting) that were to have 2 double beds in each. We placed several calls to verfiy our accomodations- including two on the day of our arrival. After spending the day at Cedar Point, we arrived around 11:00 PM with a van full of tired kids. The young girl at the front desk flippantly said "we gave your rooms away so you are now booked in two rooms with one bed in each"I replied "we booked two DOUBLE rooms and we need FOUR beds"She rolled he eyes and looked at a co-worker and said "I am out of here. You are going to have to handle this"After some discussion they put us in a room that had five double beds. The room was huge, but VERY dirty. The single bath was moldy, full of bugs and hair, and very low water pressure in the shower. There were only two chairs to sit on, and a TINY tv with a broken remote.Upon complaining, NOTHING was done and they pointed out that they had given us a "special rate" ($118 is not THAT special when you are staying in a dump) of course, they *forgot* that the "special" rate was due to them giving away our original rooms in the first place.Don't stay here- sleeping in an alley would be more pleasant and MUCH cleaner.

The Worst Place We've EVer Stayed

    from anonymous

OUr room was not ready for us to check in at 10PM, after a day at the amusement park!! We had to wait fifteen minutes for someone to clean it.

The controls on the TV didn't work by remote. Had to use pliers. The pool was filthy. There were spiders in the bathroom. Very creepy. This was summer 2002. Perhaps they've renovated.

    Roadway Inn South

    from Snug

Tried to charge extra when I was quoted diffrently. Pool was so cold that no one could swim in it, even though they claim that it's heated. Couldn't use the phone for local or out of state calls and no TV in the evenings. They claimed it was the weather. Don't stay there to save a few bucks.
