Along the way:

Heading to Portland, Maine (to visit Tom, Denise & Foster) we drove from Milton, through the Lewiston border crossing (N of Niagara Falls), through New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and finally into Maine, an 11 hour drive. Surprisingly, there are no orchards or farms east of the Niagara River – it's all bush.

Ni hao! (Hello in Chinese...pronounced "knee how")

We are now one week away from our departure and realizing that next week at this time we will be in the air over the Pacific and headed to China! The accumulating of stuff is coming to an end and the real packing is beginning. The girls love the whole packing thing...their mother...not so much. Excitement is in the air as the count down begins.

On Oct 2nd we headed south to Wells where our timeshare is located. We drove along the coast and down a peninsula that was beautiful and rugged.We ate lunch in a little town at the end of the peninsula, Stoningham. We saw lots of quaint houses and lots of lobster boats. Lobster fishing seems to be the prominate fishery in these parts. I don't think there is a salmon fishery except for salmon fish farms. We eventually made our way to Freeport ...

... had no idea there were so many! but you can only see them by boat, and turns out maine has the longest coastline of any of the 50 states (i'm pretty sure this is what chris told me). some islands have lots of houses on them, plus a few stores, maybe a school. some kids have to take a ferry to the mainland for school in portland. but some islands are privately owned and have only 1 or 2 houses on them. if maine wasn't ...

We left Boston this morning from the North Station in Boston and we're rolling on the Downeaster north toward Portland, Maine. The train has a great wireless connection so I'm able to do this from my laptop!

The views have been lovely on this route. Lot's of hardwood forests, lakes, rivers and small towns as we head north ...

... floating dry dock. We chose to pull over here, for our morning tea and called at the information centre to obtain a map of the town as well as directions to the Maritime museum. "The Road to Enlightenment has Many Detours!" - Me Yesterday morning I dropped my truck off at "Bradford's Towing in Lamoine, Maine to get the leaky axle seal replaced. I was provided with a service loaner vehicle so that I wouldn't be stranded all day. Since I was "stuck" another day in Bar Harbor I figured I'd do more sightseeing.
