Historical Traveler Reviews of Rodeway Inn Lancaster
Horrible Experience
from A TripAdvisor Member
There was nothing GOOD about this hotel. The phone didn't work. The bathroom was moldy. The room smelled of mold and/or mildew. A second room was just as bad. The bottom sheet on the double bed was a TWIN sheet (not real comfortable). Days Inn Corporate wasn't too interested--we contacted them because the place was so bad.

After reading other reviews, I was concerned about staying there. However, I was very pleased with the experience. The staff was courteous and helpful and the room was very neat and clean. The only thing I would change is to have them add voicemail, because the telephone system is a bit cumbersome. Other than that, it is a nice place to stay.

As soon as my friend and I walked into the room, the stench of 'wet' was overwhelming. Looking around, the black areas of mold under the wallpaper as well as the giant brown water stains above each bed were seen as well as a nice little area behind the door where the wallpaper had peeled down, allowing the mold to make itself clearly visible. There was no coffee maker or hair dryer as the site claimed and as my friend tried to wash her hair, the hot water never came on. Overfilled garbage bags were on the corners of the hallway as well as the garbage that had spilled out of them and was still there the next day. The heater would blow out hot air for awhile, then switch to cold for longer and upon waking up, my friend, who's bed was closest to the door and heater, found the bottom of her comforter soaked. Way sorry I didn't read any reviews before showing up and lucky it was only for one night!

Checked in with family and left after three hours. Place seems to be patronized by riff-raff and other undesirables.
Need I say more!
Stay at Fairfield Inn which is perfect for families and very clean and spacious.
Health dept should close down
from A TripAdvisor Member
Filthy, hotel. Can't believe a travel agent tried to book us in this dump!!!! Guess she didn't do any checking. A bus load of travelers were booked at this hotel and out of 12 rooms only one was somewhat sutible. We all protested as most rooms had soiled sheets on the beds some rooms weren't made up from the last people that stayed there the night before pubic hair in tubs and toilets no mattress pads & sheets that don't go to the bottom. The indoor pool had been closed by the health dept. months ago however was still filled with dirty water. I wouldn't let my dog stay there. Garbage in halls and outside the front door halls and carpets not clean soiled wallpaper in bathrooms next to the toilet. Needless to say we all checked out and went down the the street to a VERY CLEAN Comfort Inn .

This group had two rooms with a minor issue, and there was one individual that was being very disruptive and disrespectful to our staff. The number of rooms listed with issues is false, I had spoken directly to the group leader, and then when the situation was resolved (we allowed them to leave, and are refunding their monies), a member of the group (the afore mentioned rabble rouser) intercepted the telephone and proceeded to act as if she was in charge of the group. Where should I start with the many errors and misleading statements? The indoor pool has never been closed down by the state and was open while they were here. The outdoor pool was closed by us voluntarily the beginning of August, before the state issued a closure order for the outdoor pool as a formality. There was an issue with the circulation of the pool through the filters, and while these guests were here, we were attempting to fix the problem. All hallways are cleaned prior to the housekeeping staff leaving. Unfortunately, if a guest litters in the hallway prior to these guests arriving at 10:30pm, there is not much that the hotel could do in that regards and the way this guest describes the issues gives the false impression that the hotel is completely covered in garbage. The issue of "soiled wallpaper in the bathrooms next to the toilet" is completely false. Some rooms do have some drips of wood stain and wallpaper adhesive from re-finishing parts of the rooms and bathrooms. However the description of the issue as "soiled wallpaper" would lead the typical reader to believe that there was fecal matter on the walls; which was not the case.

This should be called the motel from Hell !!

For the love of your family or yourself, don't ever stay here !!!!!!!!!!! What a horrible place !! Rooms were disgusting.air .cond. and windows were filthy, Our family had 2 adjoining rooms. one room the lamp shade was all tattered and torn, the bottom bureau drawer had no handles to open it, and the VERY WORST, the double plug outlet by the bed had no cover, completely exposing the live outlets and the open hole. What a safety hazard!! Especially with 2 small kids, let alone a fire risk. The other room, the phone was completely dead, the middle bureau drawer wouldn't open, and the windows and air cond. were nothing but crud !! We asked to be moved. They moved us up to a 3rd. floor. No elevators, no air.cond. in the hallways. Lug your suitcases up like that, it's fun in 95 degree heat. Now to these 2 rooms they moved us to.One the smoke alarm had NO BATTERY in it !!!!!!!! My son in law a career firefighter went down and asked for a battery. They told him they didn't have any. He told them under no uncertain terms they better get him one and right now !! The other bureau had no handle on the bottom drawer, the rugs were disgusting, the rooms smelled like a moldy smell.
The ad says coffeepots- forget it, they don't have any. The ad says outdoor pool, forget it, the pipes are broke and they don't intend to fix it.
The lobby and cramped "breakfast nook" had no air conditioning. It was so stuffy and hot !!
We paid cash for 4 nights , we stayed one night and checked out the very next morning, wanting our money back for the other 3 nights we were cancelling. We were told there was no manager to give us our money back.Nobody could open the safe. Come back at 4 p.m. We went back, no cash still, no manager they could get in touch with.We would have to wait until somebody paid with cash. The girl behind the desk was rude, and could've cared less. I asked how the place could run without a manager or someone in authority. No answer. I could wait or come back at 10 p.m. when maybe someone could help us then. After waiting around, finally someone came in and lucky for us paid cash, we finally got our money back but only for the 3 nights, they would do nothing about the miserable night we stayed there, and they were very sarcastic and rude. This place should be condemned by the Board of Health AND the Fire Marshall of Lancaster. Shame on Days Inn Corporation to allow this franchise to stay open. Pay the extra money, go elsewhere . I wish I had seen this trip adviser before I subjected my family to this horrible place !! They are worse than "terrible". they deserve LESS than a 1 rating. 28 out of 30? I can't believe there's 2 places worse than this. db

This is another review with quite a few issues in it. I will start at the beginning. The issue regarding the double plug outlet is misleading. While I agree that this needed to be addressed if we would have been given the chance, it would have been repaired. If it is not brought to our attention, how are we to fix this problem? Also, all outlets where the guest described are behind a heavy night stand that "2 small kids" would not be moving to get behind. The issue of the "No Elevators, or Air Conditioning in the hallways" is in reality a non-issue. We do not advertise an elevator, never have, never will and the guest would have been informed of this if he had taken the time to ask. In regards to the air conditioning for the hallways; unfortunately hotel guests prop open the exterior doors and allow the excessive heat in, otherwise, the hallways are kept at a very decent temperature. Not having an elevator, as well as their statements regarding the air conditioning in the hallways are a non-issue. Regarding the smoke alarm. Our smoke detectors are checked on a rotating basis. With six sections of the hotel, two sections are checked each month, unfortunately if a guest removes the battery from the smoke detector it is possible to be missed until the next scheduled inspection. And based upon the described actions and comments by the son of the guest, they were not very willing to give us the opportunity to fix the issue. Regarding the coffeepots we do not advertise as having a coffee pot in the room. In the past we have had them, but due to issues in keeping them in good working order, we removed them over one prior to this guests arrival. Also, as noted before, the repairs for the pool were being done while the guest was at the hotel. In regards to the breakfast nook and lobby not having air conditioning, that is completely and utterly false. First off, the end of August was unseasonably cool so the air conditioning in the lobby was not set to an extremely low setting. However, the breakfast nook area, as well as the entire lobby have multiple ceiling fans that provide extra cooling. Regarding the refund issue, it is very unreasonable to believe that the front desk clerk would have over $500.00 dollars on hand to issue this refund. When the manger came on duty, they were able to refund the money. The hotel clerk did care about their issues, but can only take the abuse from the guest for so long before they have to move on to take care of other guests. Also the guest comments regarding condemning the hotel by the board of health and the fire marshal are completely inflammatory and untrue, considering we paced a recent inspection by the Manheim Township Board of Code Compliance Department.

Never Again
from cranstonsnord
Check in Thursday March 31. Check out Sunday April 3, 2005. Formerly a Holiday Inn, now a Days Inn. Dirty. The first room we were in had not had a good cleaning in quite some time, and the refrigerator did not work. 8:20AM Friday a knock on the door. Housekeeping, we're here to service your room. Who ever heard of a stay-over being serviced first? Especially that early in the morning. They were told to come back in 1 hour. 8:25 AM another knock on the door. Maintenaince had to get in the bathroom right away. We're flooding the area below us. (We were on the first floor) I told them to wait, my wife was showering. She never did finish. I never got to shower. You couldn't use the sink or toilet either as water was seeping in from all drains. I went to get another room. Room 225 was given to me. The TV didn't work. I told them just to make sure I have a clean room where everything works, I'm here for 2 more nights. When I got back the third room was not ready. The housekeeper said she would finish it next. When I got back there were no washcloths and no hand towels. I left her a note to make sure all amenities were there on Sat night. The bathroom was restocked, but nothing else was done in the room. No trash emptied, no floors vacuumed. Sunday morning there was no hot water. The front desk said it should be back on in a couple hours. I didn't have to wait. After complaining my bill was adjusted. A Days Inn standard is coffee makers in all rooms. I didn't see any in the three rooms I was in. I'll never go back.

There are many false statements in this guests review. First and foremost we were never a Holiday Inn, the other Days Inn on the other end of town was. So this alone brings into question whether or not this was even our hotel. Regarding the refrigerator, if we would have been notified that it did not work, we would have replaced it for the guest. Also, at the time of this guests stay, only our suites actually had refrigerators in them, and there are no suites on the first floor, nor is 225 a suite. However, the Days Inn - East did and still does, have refrigerators in all of their rooms. Regarding the housekeeping coming to their room. First off, the statement regarding the housekeepers asking them if they want service at 8:20am is an absolute lie. Our housekeeping staff does not even arrive at the hotel prior to 9:45am. So there is absolutely no chance of a housekeeper asking knocking on their door at 8:20am. Regarding the comments about maintenance, this also leads me to believe that this was not our hotel. As the person said, they were on the first floor, and there is nothing below our 1st floor rooms but the ground. Also, the statement about coffee makers being in the rooms as being a Days Inn standard is completely false.

I was looking for a deal...and I should know better. There wasn't anything overtly wrong...but.....there weren't many cars which should have been my first clue. The sports bar should have been my second. If you are a woman traveling alone..don't stay here. Women who travel for business need to feel protected and safe. This place didn't do it. When I scratched my leg I was afraid that something was going to bite me on my butt. Take a clue, pay the extra $25 buck and stay in a nice place.

This review is extremely misleading and unfair. In her statements the guest even admits that there was nothing wrong with the hotel. Statements regarding the fact that there were not many cars in the parking lot is extremely misleading and unfair since based upon the date of the review, she was with us during our off season and pretty much every hotel in this area did not have "many cars". Also, the fact that we have a sports bar and grille is nothing that should make a person feel unsafe, as the bar is located adjacent to the lobby area, and is not near guest rooms. Regarding feeling protected and safe, this guest fails to mention the fact that there are over 15 security cameras covering the entire hotel, several lights on the roofs of each bulding and a light outside of every other room. Also, comments regarding "being afraid that something was going to bite me on the butt" yet not saying that there were any cleanliness issues are misleading to say the least.

Days Inn Lancaster -- Never Again
from rav4mom
During our stay on Aug. 9th, we had a bathtub that would not drain and hair coming up from the drain. Upon calling the front desk at 7 in the morning the young man told us that he did not have the authority to change us to another room. He suggested that we shower at the pool or would send someone to fix it. At 7:20 still no maintance person. At 7:45 I went to the front desk. After tracking down a manager ( who had the maintance man with her) I was told I could have another room the next night. I was only staying one night so that was useless. She never offered us another room to shower in that morning. Calling customer servive is useless because they never contacted us back like they said they would in seven days. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. I'm sorry that I didn't read trip advisor before I booked.

Multiple issues with this review. First off, the statement that the front desk clerk told them that he "did not have the authority to change" them to another room is completely false. All font desk clerks have the authorization to move guests as needed. However; that being said, in looking back at our occupancy for the date that this guest states that they stayed with us, the hotel was at a full house due to multiple groups being in house and the clerk may have told them that they did not have the ability to move them at that time due to the hotel being full. Regarding the fact that they did not have a member of our maintenance staff at their room by 7:20am, our maintenance staff does not start typically until 8:00am. Also, based upon their statements regarding "tracking down a manger", the member of our management team was obviously not at the desk at the time of their discussion regarding the tub issue, so due to the fact that she was not aware of the departure date of every guest in the hotel off the top of her head, it was reasonable for her to offer to switch them to a different room that evening. Also, there was no reason to offer another room to shower in when our maintenance staff would have fixed the issue right away. Based upon their own statement, "the maintenance man was with her", and would have taken care of the issue right away. Regarding the statement regarding the calling of customer service. In all complaints to the customer service hotline the guest is notified either via mail, or telephone within the required seven days. If the guest has not been contacted by the hotel, they are informed to contact customer service and typically the customer service center will unilaterally make a decision and offer the guest some form of compensation regardless of the facts.

Vile and disgusting!!

DO NOT STAY HERE if you want a good night's sleep!?! Unless, of course, you prefer moldy, germ-ridden bathroooms; musty, dirty carpets; lumpy beds with cheap, flat pillows and short, worn sheets; and late-night partiers whooping it up in the room below. Just don't be foolish enough to expect the inept staff to accomodate a request at 1:45 a.m. to keep loud and drunken revelers from breaking into the "closed" pool.

There are many misrepresentations in the statements that this guest makes. Our bathrooms have no mold, and are not germ-ridden as the guest states. The carpets at the time that this guest stayed had been replaced within the prior six months. Also, regarding the "cheap, flat pillows" since this review had been written, the hotel has replaced every pillow in the hotel. The "short, worn sheets" is a false statement as well. At the time of this review, we were using a laundry service that provided crisp, clean sheets. Regarding the "short"ness of the sheets, we do not use fitted sheets, and the guest may have viewed the sheets as being short, because they were not fitted. In regards to the people breaking into the "closed" pool, in researching the available information from the end of July and the beginning of August of 2004 there were no reports of anyone "breaking into" either of our pools. Also, in regards to their comments regarding our staff, if a guest calls regarding excessive noise, the room in question is called, and if the issue continues, the standard operating procedure is to notify the police to have the guest removed.
