Today, Friday, we had another great drive. We left Austin, Nevada by nine AM and had only about a hundred and fifty miles to travel. We moved lower and lower until now we're at about 4,400 above sea level. It's about seventy degrees here and feels great. Enroute we stopped at Petroglyph Site which was started by the Cattail People. The oldest petroglyph is about 8,000 years on up to 500 years ago. But, who's ...

... 50 for about 6 miles each direction from the Hotel. Stopped at a couple of beaches to take some pictures of the lake, but it sure was getting cold. Suppose to drop to about 26o tonight. Felt great to get back in the car each time where it was warm. Dropped the car off with the Valet and headed back to the room about 7PM. On our return Dave was already back in the room another $200.00 down. The Casino’s are empty; I don’t know ...

I found a visitor centre at a highway I was crossing along the trail and bumped into a Canadian hiker called IceCave, offering me some roasted almonds from a ...

... It has been preserved as a historic park in a state of "arrested decay" with around a hundred buildings still standing in various conditions. Was amazing wandering around this genuine, unadulterated Wild West town, just wouldn't like to do it at night, spooky!! The rest of the afternoon was spent driving up to Lake Tahoe where we will spend the day ...

Day 110 Drive via Tioga pass to Lake Tahoe

Headed to Lake Tahoe today, via the Tioga pass in Yosemite, this is a long but great drive with amazing views risk g to 10,000 ft. This pass, like many other passes in the Sierra Nevada, has a gradual approach from the west and drops off to the east dramatically, losing more than 3,000 ft by the time the road reaches U.S. Route 395. Tioga Pass is named after Tioga Mine, whose name originated in New York: ...
