... the forest area. There were huge pine cones all over so I pinched one and put one in my bag for my mum. We sat down on some beautiful spots and looked out over the lake and talked about life. ... We stopped for lunch at a well-stocked shop in Adin (population 276), full of stuffed animals and some tacky souvenirs. Why didn't I buy the John Wayne shot glasses? Given the sat nav wasn't working and we were relying on my iPad for music I planned to stop at Reno Airport and get the car sorted. At the Alamo desk Shawnese was the first example of bad service in the US. Totally unsympathetic (we could ...

... the Rock' the dock instantly has a chilling feeling that is emphasised by the foggy air but the welcome talk from the staff lightens the mood and they point us in the direction of the tour. We wander round the museum and learn about the history of the island but what we are really there for is the prison so we walk up to the cell block and get our audio tour and begin the walk through the USA's most infamous high security penitentiary. It's smaller than we ...
