... of the air- pure pine needles. I have never smelt anything like it- I wish that smell could be bottled up and taken away.

No-one was here- it was so quiet and relaxing.

On Sunday the weather cleared and I saw the true beauty of the lake. I have been very fortunate with my travels and have travelled all around the World but this lake really is something. Even suffering with the drought ...

It's my birthday 28 today :) Woke up to birthdays greetings and text messages off my Trekkie friends :) what an epic place to wake up on your birthday :) Another early start as we have a long journey ahead of us to Lake Tahoe and because of wild fires we have had to revise the route so we have had to go the long way round passing Yosemite which is our next port of call after Lake Tahoe, so initially going back on ...

... the black clouds coming closer and closer. Then, the rain began! Now, we have lived in WA for most of our lives and we know rain but this storm easily made our Top 5 list. The rain caused flooding across the roads every 1/2 mile and the rain drops were so thick that people were dangerously stopped on the almost non-existent shoulder of an already too narrow road. One car had stopped in front of what was quickly becoming a mud waterfall. I was seriously very worried for her. ...

... of the recent fires, though we did see a few spots here and there that were burnt out. The 395 heading north to Lake Tahoe is a very pretty drive and very easy too. There are a lot of beautiful little towns along the way and the climb up to Tahoe is spectacular. These roads that climb up mountains are amazing to us as we just don't have anything like them at home. We came into Tahoe across the stateline from Nevada, which is littered with casinoes and casts ...

Nice drive around the entire lake

A travel blog entry by onighjoy on Feb 10, 2013

... mountains to the backside. I would say this lake is more amazing than Lake Como but Como definitely has the better man made stuff - just so much more style and elegance than the US houses/buildings. That said, both are spectacular and I love both. We tried to take a few photos but I just don't know how to take outdoor scenery shots. Its all about light and that is something I'm still a novice at. Anyway, the photos are nice because ...
