This morning we left Yellowstone and went to Gillette. What we saw on the way was remarkable. We went to the only lookout on the way out of the Eastgate and saw snow on the top of the mountains plus great views of Lake Yellowstone. We then drove to Cody Wyoming stopping at the William F. Cody dam and saw how hard it was to build a dam in the early 1900. It took 3 attempts to build the concrete wall before the spring floods arrived and only a brief window before it was to cold to do ...

... meant a proposed side trip to Devils Tower was in doubt, especially when we stopped of in the town of Wall to see the amazing Wall Drug store. But when we got to the highway turnoff to Devils Tower there was still some daylight so we raced the fading sun into a brilliant sunset to try to get a photo of the iconic landmark made famous in the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". We got there just in time to snap some silhouetted photos and marvel at its size ...
