... were able to get tickets for the 3:00 tour. That gave us plenty of time to head back into Custer for lunch.

Lunch was at Sage Creek Cafe in Custer, SD. We LOVED it! Both kids had Wild Sockeye Salmon open-faced sandwiches served with salad. Dad had a buffalo burger with salad. Mom had their Asian Vegetable Noodle Bowl.

June 30th, we went over the do's and don'ts of our travel and how to prepare the trailer and truck for the roads in Canada and Alaska
July 1st , the boys headed over to Home Depot to pick up supplies to build a rock guard for their trucks. We hope this will protect the radiator and headlights.

... meant a proposed side trip to Devils Tower was in doubt, especially when we stopped of in the town of Wall to see the amazing Wall Drug store. But when we got to the highway turnoff to Devils Tower there was still some daylight so we raced the fading sun into a brilliant sunset to try to get a photo of the iconic landmark made famous in the film "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". ... two bears. Yay us. The timing was perfect because not 5 minutes later, they were out of sight. Proceeding through Yellowstone and out the NorthEast exit, we headed to the Bear?? Scenic highway. It is supposed to be one of the most beautiful roads in the States. Alex and I can attest to the fact that is was absolutely amazing, and on my list as one of the top scenic drives I have been on.
