... After Topock, we crossed into CA and approached Needles where we decided to make the haul to Barstow. We are glad we did.
Tomorrow night we are staying at the Wigwam Motel in Rialto, CA - the best maintained Route 66 motel in CA. Check it out. http://wigwammotel.com I am more than excited for this experience.
Our next two days should be easy driving with only about 70 miles to traverse each day until we reach the end of Route 66 in Santa ...

As we crested the San Gabriel mountains you could see the smog hanging In the valley. We ...

... freight-train we've seen have been marked "Union Pacific"). I also noticed a single wind turbine blade laying in a ditch near the railroad. It must have come off from one of the turbines above and tumbled all the way down to the bottom of the hill and indeed I did see a turbine with just two blades instead of three, missing one way up there on the hill. We made a turn on to another road and soon came to a desert town where we made a short stop to look around. We ...

... plan to - it is a car-driven city and the freeways and roads reflect that.

No time now to properly follow Jerry's guide to the last section of old roadside attractions, we had a root-beers float to drink on the pier before taking ourselves Back To The Ballgame! (Impossible to go back, as we'd never been - how exciting!)

We drove past the original end of The Old Road and arrived at Santa ...
