Rodeway Inn Barstow

We headed out about 630 in the morning. Jono, Michael, Steve and I met a the Chevron down the street from my house. We decided to go north through Pearblossom and the Mohave Deseret.

Headed north on the 15 toward Las Vegas and stopped here in Barstow for breakfest.

... decided to sip on the camelbak water (desert makes you feel thirsty just looking at it). Hmm, nada. So I stubbornly decided to just go on, there aren't great shoulders here (try none) and I was comfy enough. At the motel, I discovered that the tube got twisted; there is a first time for everything. Just one more thing to file away, esp. when I am nearer to Phoenix and points south where you can count on needing the vest and the water to keep sane.

... shade. Yikes! I think it may have been 114 deg F in the sun. How anyone could have lived in that kind of climate in the 1800s is beyond me. Actually, how anyone can live there now is beyond me.

The best part for me was taking pictures, and despite the staggering heat I'm glad we went. It would have been more fun at a cooler time of year though. My son seemed to enjoy it thoroughly; he loves ...

... the Dam was built. It actually was really good especially as there are 29 Dams across the Colorado Basin managing water supply and energy needs. Then it was yes, you guessed it another Casino Special Buffet meal at a Casino!! !Meal was fab. All you could eat and drink for £20. Ribs were excellent. Tonight in Barstow, tomorrow LA.

Since the temps of the Mojave Desert get quite high, we decided to split the trip up into two traveling days, giving Wesley a break.  This was a good idea as we encounter fairly long inclines causing our engine to get quite hot, requiring a couple breaks.

On the Calico ghost town road wiht nothing but other RVS and miles of desert and the montains in the distance we really felt we had hit the wild west. After a few hours of tough driving through the hills we found our B & B for the night. Inn in the country is tucked away amongst the trees, and is run by a lovely lady called Judy.
