The temple complex was great, lots of ornate carvings (of monkeys) plus some good sized grounds for praying and offering, which were sadly closed to visitors when we visited (we probably got the cheap tickets) but never the less we enjoyed the walk around what would be our final temple trip in Asia. After a delicious breakfast, we left the Kyle household with our last day in Portland ahead of us, which we spent shopping, sightseeing, and exploring. We decided we wanted to make it a little ways out of the city, so as to avoid the morning traffic. Charles Shaw, from Warm Showers, readily accepted our last minute request, and even specially cooked us a delicious dinner ...

... no hostel has ever told me unprompted where a bookshop is. So it's probably a little bit special. I referred immediately to my guidebook, where I found a small item on "Powell's City of Books". It's like the mothership was calling me home. I promptly set aside a day for my visit to Powell's, and went out for a burger.

In my enthusiasm to tell you all about Powell's I have neglected to mention that Portland was in the middle of ...
