... that day, Portland had not really sold me. I still felt like I was missing something, but walking around that neighborhood got me thinking, “I could get into this.”
We met up with Ross again that evening, pumped that he was able to spend so much time with us. Not only was it great to see Ross, but we also find that any time we have a friend to explore with makes for a much better overall experience. Our first stop was ...

Following our brief stay in Barrel Room we moved on to another bar across the street where they had a pool table, karaoke and cheap beer. It was far too early for me to even think about doing a rendition of Common People but we had a few games of pool and were told about another bar called Jones's, which promised cheesy music and a good crowd. Portland Japanese Garden was our first destination today. It is touted as the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan. The garden is nestled in the lovely West Hills of Portland and covers 5.5 acres with five separate garden styles. When entering the garden I felt a sense of profound peace. Our group settled on a one-hour visit, but we were so captivated by the tranquil beauty of the place that we doubled the allotted time!

9th day - Phoenix to Portland

A travel blog entry by edwardsfamtrips on Mar 30, 2014

... we didn't really get to chat with them while we were here.

Everyone had a good meal & it was nice to start the day out full since we wouldn't know how the rest of the day would go. Eventually we had to say our sad goodbyes for this visit then we headed to the area where the cars are dropped off for different rental companies. It ended up being a short drive but the parking structure where we had to leave the car was ...
