It gets a five star just for the fact that the first room we passed had two people passed out. It was 6:30 in the evening. I don't think I have ever been passed out drunk that early before. Well maybe once.

I suggest you look elsewhere
We were looking for a less expensive hotel to stay 1 night prior to our cruise as well as the night we returned from the cruise and also one that had transportation to airport and cruiseport.. We had 6 in our party and reserved 3 rooms w/king beds approx 1 month before our arrival date. I called the day before we left to inquire about the shuttle as our plane was not scheduled to arrive until 10:30 pm. The front desk explained that if we had our luggage and were ready by 11:00 to call otherwise we would have to take a taxi. As luck would have it, our flight didnt get in until almost 11:00 so no shuttle. Because of having 6 in our party 2 taxi's were required. Upon arriving at the hotel, the first thing we noticed was the horrible smell of mold in the lobby. You would think that if they were remodeling they would have started with the lobby and worked their way back but obviously not. The lobby is very shabby and the only thing that it offers is internet access which is always busy. We proceeded to the check in desk and and an employee who had the personality of a rock. He proceeded to tell us that they had only 1 room with a king and the other 2 would have queen size beds. As we were told, according to Florida state law they only have to provide us with a room not necessarily what we reserved. After loading 12 pieces of luggage on a carrier we proceeded down the dark hall to try and locate the elevator. After no luck finding it, I returned to the front desk and was informed there is NO ELEVATOR! We then had to carry luggage up cement steps that looked like they were ready to collapse any minute. I must say that the rooms were clean and I was pleasantly surprised. They look like they have been furnished with what might have been located on recalled freight! No one room is decorated the same-but all 3 of our rooms were clean. Upon returning at the end of the week, we were told rooms werent going to be ready until 3 and they did agree to hold our luggage until then. We returned at 4 p.m. to find that 2 out of 3 of us could check into our rooms. The 3rd couple in our party did not have access to their room until 6:30 p.m.!!! The coffee machine in the lobby only had decalf available and the same fruit juice dispencer that was broken on our original arrival date was still out of order. One other thing, our room keys were hooked on little plastic clips and the room numbers had been hand written on little squares of paper that were then clipped. So if you accidently lost your little piece of paper from the plastic clip you had no idea what room you were in. All in all, it was the worst place I have every stayed in but the rooms are clean. So if you can get past all of the other confustion and rudeness it will do for a 1 night stay.
Good, Basic Accommodation
It looks a bit scary when you first approach it, overlooking a flyover and in front of a trailer park but this hotel does was it says on the tin - it offers clean, basic accommodation at a reasonable price.
It's near the airport and Port Everglades and they run a shuttle to the port for cruise passengers.
It looks a bit shabby from the outside but my room was clean, and my bed was HUGE! There's even a swimming pool.
I didn't eat breakfast there - but tasted the Orange Juice which was disgusting so I would recommend eating elsewhere.
Free interet access is very popular - in fact so popular, I couldn't get to it at all!
If you are going on a cruise, I think this is fine. Don't go with high expecatations and you won't be disappointed.
Horrible Rodeway Inn and Suites Ft Lauderdale
This property was by far, the worst place I have ever stayed. It was disgustingly dirty and very mis-represented. We had requested a king, non-smoking, poolside. It was also supposed to have an on-premises restaurant. The lobby was filthy, with sticky soda stains on the carpet and food/gum smashed into the carpet as well. What we got was a filthy, smoking, two double bed room, not even close to the pool area. The carpet between the bed and the bathroom was soaking wet, the bathroom had mildew everywhere, and everything was permeated with cigarette smoke. We could not walk on the floor without our shoes. Reception said they had no other rooms available and refused to move us. By the way, the pool was non-functioning and the restaurant had been 'closed for remodeling", obviously some timeago (boarded up windows, etc.). The hotel is located in a very bad section of town; I would not walk outside after dark. The rate was not inexpensive either -- including tax it came to $150 for that one horrible night.
If you're planning, as we did, to spend the night in Ft Lauderdale prior to departing on a cruise, do not spend it at this property - it will be a terrible way to start a vacation and you'll feel hugely ripped off besides.
Great value, super people at Rodeway in Ft Lauderdale
If you are looking for a clean, friendly, safe, budget priced place to stay in Ft. Lauderdale I can highly recommend the Rodeway.
The Inn got hit hard by the hurricane a couple of years ago, and they are renovating it one wing at a time. You may see some evidence of construction, but it won't affect your stay. Our room was in the main building. The carpet, beds, etc. are all fairly new. The room was bright, clean and plenty roomy. They have a free shuttle to/from the airport and cruise ships, and a very friendly and helpful staff.
For the value conscious traveler this property is worth considering.
When You Must go Cheap
When you must go cheap, this place will do in a pinch. The place was recently "remodeled" but judging from the shoddy work it will be a mess in a year or so. However, the location is not bad with plenty of fast food and a Win Dixie just 5 minutes away. Anyway, this dive was better than expected, could have been much worse and likely will be in a year or so. But for now, if you have no where else to go this will do.
Great stay better than expected
I have to say they have remodeled all of the room and they are very high end not what you would expect to find at a Rodeway. I was worried at first because of the past reviews but I called the hotel and they explained they had major hurricane damage a year ago. The beds are the Serta perfect sleepers. I stayed there for 2 nights before leaving on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Their shuttle picked us up at the airport and the hotel was 8 minutes away. Their restaurant and lounge was still under renovation and they said it would be completed soon.
But there are lots of restaurants nearby and they will take you there. Try Lester's Dinner it was really good and open 24 hours. They hotel staff were very extremely nice. They drop us off at the cruise port a few miles away gave the drive a nice tip for helping me and my wife. I will stay there again when I come back in April going on carnival with the family.
Worst Room Ever
Stayed at the Rodeway Inn in Ft. Lauderdale. Room was filthy, furniture old and falling apart, lamps were rusted, shower was cracked and moldy and the shower was luke warm. Walls and ceiling were water stained and we were afraid to walk around the room without shoes on. When I complained desk clerk had no response. They are renovating but should not have given us the room which was not fit for habitation. Stay Away, far away.
Disappointed with things that didn't work
We stayed at the Rodeway for one Saturday night so we could catch a 6am flight home from our vacation. The price was $69 plus tax so I set my expectations low. We arrived before 3pm check in and we were offered a room over the front desk so took it to avoid the wait. This was one of the few rooms that was not on the first floor (no elevator or bell service to help with luggage) and not overlooking the pool. It was not busy and we had the nice outdoor swimming pool to ourselves. however, it made us wonder why they gave us such an incovenient room since we checked in with 2 10 year olds. My kids said the water was cold. The room was nice and clean with 2 double beds and well appointed furnishings. It also had as easy to access, wireless internet though was insecure so don't provide personal information over the internet.
There were 2 towels in our room and when we asked for more and towels to use in the swimming area, there were none at the front desk. The manager walked us back to the pool area and gave us 4 towels smaller than most bath towels. We never did get more bath towels.
There is a Denny's restaurant attached but we didn't eat there. We watched a small TV (maybe smaller than 19 inches) and went to bed early. The free airport shuttle runs from 6am to 11pm so we arranged for a taxi to pick us up at 4:45am. The desk clerk gave us this telepjhone number.
We awoke on time and were very irritated that there was NO hot water. It was cool at best so showers were short. The straw that broke the camel's back came when I tried to dry my hair and the hair dryer did not work. I called the front desk and asked "Alex" for a working replacement and was told that he didn't have one at the front desk. I explained my dilemma that I was getting on a plane in less than 1.5 hours and asked him to get a working hairdryer from another room and he said "no, i can't leave the desk". He did not apologize or say anything but that. Yellow taxi was on time at 4:45am and we left with wet hair and a cold moodl.
Disgusting and filthy. We needed a hotel near Port Everglades and the airport and this seemed to fit the bill. You can see renovations going on once you enter but how they had the nerve to give us a room that was falling apart with water damaged ceilings looking like they were going to fall through and the furniture that was moldy with rusted lamps I'll never know. The bathroom had no hot water for showers, only luke warm even when you only used the rusted hot water faucet turned high. There were little bugs around the sink so we had to put our belongings in our suitcase until ready to use. We never walked barefoot around the room. We had to leave for a day cruise at 6AM and didn't return until 11pm so we didn't have time to search for a new place. On checkout when we told the desk person that we had no hot water and there were bugs in the sink he said they were putting in a new hot water heater--no mention of the bugs. This place should be closed until major renovations are completed or closed for good. The pool looked good from afar but up close the water was covered with what looked liked sawdust.
Stay away from this hotel until the renovations are complete
My husband and I stayed at the Rodeway Inn Fort Lauderdale Airport for one night in mid-March of 2006, before a cruise departure in Miami. I had checked TripAdvisor for details about it, but none were available--I hoped that no news might be good news. We had chosen this property because of the airport location and free transfers; all the other properties were much higher in price or seemed to be already sold out due to spring break. We arrived at night on their free shuttle to a lobby with not one stick of furniture in it--the management had mentioned nothing about renovations, but very clearly they were in the middle of them. We paid for our room and opened the door (exterior entrances) to find a room that was in desperate need of updating and a good cleaning. Neither one of us wanted to touch anything including the carpet, yet alone sleep in the bed. What to do as we were only here to sleep overnight, and everywhere else was full. I called the front desk to let them know that we were not satisfied, and she did let us know that they had some renovated, interior corridor rooms at a higher price. We went to check those out, and moved immediately. The renovated rooms were not luxurious by any means, but were cleaner and more updated, although we did not have any bedside tables or lamps in the room--it was like they were still renovating those rooms too but renting them out in the meantime to make money. Save your money and book elsewhere until their renovations are complete on all the rooms, as it was not a pleasant experience.
