      Had breakfast with Caitlin at the Portage. Caitlin said we would not need reservations at 8:00 AM because nobody is up that early on a Sunday in Seattle. I had her make reservations and we are glad we did. I left Caitlin at 10:00 for my destination of Butte, MT.       Nice morning slept in till 09:30?? Spent the day lounging by the hot tub and pool, a little overcast. Had sunscreen and a shirt on but still got a little pink (ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).       ... at the Frostop Root Beer stand (an old-fashioned A&W style joint with curbside service) for a couple root beer floats. Unfortunately, they were served in big (that's not the unfortunate part) paper cups (that is the unfortunate part), not ice-cold frosty mugs, but they were really good and refreshing on this hot day.

      ... old relics there, which we were told is due to the government cutting all the budgets. Mining back in the old days was pretty tough compared to what we know now. The memorial walls with dead miners names on it said it all. There were so many names in there. Everything was done by hand, all the rock was put into carts by hand and pushed by hand. The guys must have done their backs in with all the heavy lifting they would have had to do all day ...
