      Dog culture

A travel blog entry by jchende on Jan 07, 2015

Just a side note about "dog people" and "dog culture"... We have owned 3 dogs over the past 30 years. Until this most recent dog, Sammy, we just got a puppy, added it into the family mix and moved on. We had a dog, but we were not "dog people". I did not realize what this meant until this new dog. Since we live in Ohio, if you get a new puppy Feb 1 (stupid idea) you have to do extra things like shoveling snow ...

We came down prepared for crowds and traffic but have seen neither. Probably a function of where we are. The island seems to have 3 separate parts with 3 different personalities. The 80 degree water felt a little chilly at first but it was perfect for swimming laps and goofing ...

... investments combined with the downturn of the US economy proved too much. In his will he left Ca’ d’Zan and land, the Art Museum and his expansive art collection to the state of Florida. He died three days before all of his possessions, including Ca’ d’Zan, were to be put on public auction to repay his debtors thus guaranteeing instead that it would all go to the state. Unfortunately the house and grounds were neglected by the state ...

... Hang Tough (who might very well actually be a girl) is a 30-something blind green sea turtle who came to Mote in 1992 after being stranded in Bull Bay. He was found floating with a hook in his eye, a puncture wound in his upper right jaw, and fracture lines on his skull (it is assumed from being bashed on his head). Once the poor little guy was rehabilitated, it was determined he was permanently blind in both eyes due to trauma to the optic nerve that ...
