... away a little pain from the layover: 1) it's quieter. Much quieter. 2) it has snacks and breakfast, though neither is much to write home about. 3) Free drinks. 4) Free internets. One of reasons I picked the flight we took today is because we were supposed to fly on one of AA's new planes. However, today they have decided to swap it from the new model to the old model. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal ...

... cliched but it feels like we have seen a little more of the 'real new York'. Lots of brownstone town townhouses; cool restaurants; great street art; great deli sandwich stores; organic food bodegas. Loving the place. Also, as weird as this sounds, it's kinda cool hearing the subway rumble beneath our house. ... the word. Another long but very productive day. The more we keep this up the more we look forward to the 17 day cruise we tagged on to the end of this adventure. ps. the bus ride home was entertaining. A very fast NYC driver who weaved and pushed and tooted and yelled all the way home, just like you'd expect a local would do behind the wheel in this city that never ...

Cruise on the Hudson River. Walk and bus tour of downtown Manhattan. Les Mis on Broadway. Queued for breakfast again - not quite so bad today, probably because it is Christmas. Set off to walk to the ferry. The instructions from "the bus tour company from hell" sent us to the corner of 38h street and 12th avenue. When we got to 11th avenue, there was no sign of a river and 38th street did not go any further. We had to walk up to 40th street where we could cut ...
