... we exit the ship. It, like the others, has all of the souvenirs you can imagine. On the stage, young are girls doing highland dances for the crowd. As we enter the city we pass by two large and historic churches and the very old Rodd Inn. Despite it being a Monday morning, the city seems very sleepy. A lobster restaurant is located 100 yards to the left of the ship. We make a note of this place for a future trip.

Montague, Prince Edward Island, Canada swissbear... in 1864 to begin the dream of national unity - the Charlottetown accord. It was a moving experience as we walked over the now well-worn stone floors that these visionary men had walked on almost 150 years ago. It was 3 years later that the British North America Act was passed, making Canada a united country. Ironically, PEI, although the unofficial birthplace of the confederation, did not join Canada until 1873.
<br ...
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada wendyandbrian... one hundred yards away, with no clue about shape or location of the actual green. The quintessential blind shot. This so unnerved Luigi that he fired two line-drive seven irons about one foot off the tee-deck into the seaside flora. We laughed so hard we had to hold hands to get back down the hill

It was late when we returned to our cottage in Cavendish so we improvised a dinner of spaghetti that turned out not too badly.

Thursday, September ...
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada andy_n... go figure. There are also at least two very good looking golf courses, including another Stanley Thompson design originating from 1939 (he must have been very busy that year), the Green Gables Golf Club.

That evening we tried to barbeque steaks back at the cottage but Chef Ted was frustrated because the cold on-shore wind kept blowing the barbeque out. He persevered none-the-less and they were delicious with fresh PEI potatoes and green and waxed beans.

Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, Canada andy_n... I suppose. The drive back was so long especially because we had to stop at the airport to drop some people off I think, but we made it back around 7pm. Goodbyes were so sad! A lot of the others are seeing each other tomorrow as they are staying in Halifax but I’m leaving so this was it for me. Now I’m at Dalhousie for the night and tomorrow I’ll be riding a bus all day. Not looking forward to it, but it’s the cheapest way to travel by far so I just have to do it.
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada ausgal21... they got a little Dash aeroplane to take us the rest of the way. However, the break and the much slower speed of this aircraft meant that I missed my connection! They got me onto a later flight and so I finally arrived in Charlottetown about 11pm local time. My luggage didn't (heaven knows which of the four airports it went to), but luckily arrived next morning! This was the part of the trip I had been dreading; and hoping to 'wing ...
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada meganwadey... behind. A few of the houses were terraced but most were large and detached. It looked like they might be a bit parky in the winter - all that clapboard looked a bit draughty but the overall effect was very charming. Especially as every single person I met, without fail, smiled and said 'Hi,howareyoutoday?' Clearly this is quite normal. Rounding a corner I eventually came across a wide street with parking bays on either side and a few shops. This appeared to be the main drag ...
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada southern-fairy... like gingerbread houses, and it's still small enough that even in peak tourist season (i.e. when we went in August), it's still not super-crowded and is actually able to retain its very quaint feel. I'm looking in your direction, San Francisco: Pier 39 is no longer 'cute' or 'quaint' or even 'kitschy.' It's just a crowded, overpriced tourist trap.

PEI is also a generally interesting place. They have red mud and a store where everything has cows on it.
Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada dianaleemiller... around Peakes Quay, it was so very quite here, as it is not yet tourist season. Dinner of local seafood including blue mussels and 20 oz Alexander Keiths. I can't believe that I am standing on Prince Edward Island! This has been a childhood dream, of seeing where Anne grew up!
