Yeah Mun. No problem mun
Yeah mun, After 5 days in Jamaica I have heard this phrase a million times. It can mean; hi, how are you, can i help you, bye, ok, do you want some ganja, where is the nearest toilet etc. Every Jamaican comes up to you with a yeah man. They are very chilled and relaxed and very friendly. Must be due to the excessive amounts of weed they smoke. We …
Negril
More Rum!
... that it's the most touristy part of Jamaica so there are a lot of market stalls and Jamaican are persistant so you quite literally have to run away from them to make sure you don't buy anything, so that can get quite annoying when you just want to relax and sunbathe after a hectic week and then you get "cigarettes, cigarettes, cigarettes" shouted in your ear every two minutes!
But that night we all went to a bar on the beach with live reggae music and had a dance and the girls ...
Swimming with Horses
... shallows, we were full on swimming! The horses are trained to swim in a circle with the rider and then along the shoreline. WOW FUN!
I was soaking wet and loving every second. Greg's horse was the loudest of all of the group's, snorting and baying like crazy. We couldn't figure out if it was playing happily or wishing we would get the heck outa there.

The taxi guy thinks we are crazy!
... here we go. Poking and spying we eventually heard a little voice coming from the back porch of the house. Warmer warmer hot cooler cold cold warmer warmer.......an elderly lady stepped out into the sunshine to watch us in our hunt. She laughed when we were "colder" and laughed when we were "warmer". The taxi driver was in disbelief. You want to go into this yard? are you sure? I will stay ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Rockhouse Hotel Negril
Chillin' at the Rockhouse!
Thanks to the reviews on this website, my husband and I had the most relaxing vacation we've ever had!We just stayed at the Rockhouse from the 11th-18th, and loved it! We went to Negril for a wedding, and all of the other guests stayed at the Grand Lido. We didn't really want to go the route of the all-inclusive resorts, so I researched the West end and found that the Rockhouse sounded great! The front desk staff, namely Inise, Omar, and Kareen, were helpful in everyway. They booked a tranfer fromt he airport for us, and charged it directly to our hotel bill! When we arrived, we were taken to our room. It was room 15, which is a standard room, as there were no studios or cottages available. The room was small, but very clean, and the four posted bed was canopied with mosquito netting (very romantic), and the mattress felt like it was brand new! There was airconditioning, and fans available. the small bathroom had an outdoor shower, which was huge, and very nice! We also had a patio, but didn't really use it, as the view at the pool--which was only a few steps away, was incredible! We made it down to the pool our first day just in time for happy hour--2-for-1 drinks! Everything we tried was yummy! Ritchie, the bartender, was awsome! We will miss his drinks!!!!!We met people at happy hour that first evening, and took pictures of the sunset, then eventually made it to dinner at the Rockhouse restraunt. the food is really good! I read so much about the lobster fussili, that i had to order it! I was not disapointed! Yum! WE met Army, the head chef, later in the week--what a cool person!!! and you could charge all meals an drinks to your room--so you didn't have to carry your wallet with you all day!We had planned on doing lots of snorkeling, and mountain biking, but ended up lazing around the pool most of the time, and then swimming across prisitne bay t ojump off the cliffs at "pirates cave"--a bar/restraunt a few doors over.I absolutely loved the pool! You could sit with the pool on one side and the crashing waves on the cliffs on the other side--it was amazing! We found that you could walk to local places t oeat and ddrink, or take a cab to the beach if you wanted to see the sand, or have dinner. But really--we thought that the best places were Pirates cave, which had really good banana daquiries, and 3 dives. bothe within walking distance. 3 dives had 3 whole lobster tails for $20!We went to the Grand Lido, for dinner, and then spent an additional day there for the wedding. And we were really happy with our decision to stay at the Rockhouse! It isn't plush, but it is romantic, and rustic in a very romantic laid back atmosphere! We will be going back!
Loved the Rockhouse
We just returned from a week at Rockhouse in Negril and had a fantastic vacation. The restaurant has great views, and excellent food with very good service. Each morning I took the poolside yoga classes, and had regular afternoon massages, both of world class standard. We stayed in one of the villa cottages for the first few nights and then in one of the studio rooms and loved them both. The villas were amazing, right on the edge of the cliff, with balconies looking out over the water - if you can, book one of these. We found our rooms to be spotlessly clean in all respects and our housekeepers were very friendly and did a great job. We have already booked our return visit.
The perfect getaway
The Rock House Hotel is charming,I was so surprised, the people were warm and the rooms so tropical , it was one of the finest hotel if you want a private tropical escape. And what a place to relax. I will return very soon. chris mustion
Great View But!
Rockhouse has a great view!! especially from its restaurant which serves very good food. However, do not stay in the suites, they are very dark and depressing. The villas on the other hand seemed much better as they are perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea. I was disappointed, could be better
Avoid The Cottages At All Costs!
NEGATIVE:
The accomodations were horrible! The bed was lumpy. The sheets were stained and NOT changed daily. The glass doors to the cottage did not seal shut. As a result, there was an ant problem. Cockroaches and many other bugs were also comfortable in the cottage.
POSITIVE:
Overall, the employees provided good service. Also, the restaurant served excellent food.
Paradise found
working 6/7 days a week, needed a relaxing getaway.looking up locations in jamaica, negril and liked the name rockhouse.rockhouse web site looked interesting and the price was in our range.we were more than pleased with not only the rooms but the location is beautiful, set right on the cliffs with the restaurant over hanging the water.the staff was very helpful and did everything to make our stay as relaxing as we wanted.highly recommend!!!!
Fantastic
We loved The Rockhouse. Not only is the location breathtaking and the hotel beautifully maintained but the Staff are friendly and consistently concerned with your well-being. The villas are attractive and comfortable with wonderful ocean views. Breakfasts and dinners on the restaurant balcony overlooking the water are truly and enjoyable way to start and end your day. We ate most of our meals at The Rockhouse out of preference. The food is good, the service is good and the view is spectacular. In short, I cannot fault this hotel. They'll organize all your trips, including your airport pickup with Kenny's Tours. Our favorite driver was Malcolm. He's friendly, informative and a true delight. Do yourselves a favor and stay at The Rockhouse.
The greatest place to honeymoon
My husband and I honeymooned at the Rockhouse from June 2, 2002 through June 9, 2002. The Rockhouse was excellent. I am highly recommending it to everyone I know. There was not one thing I could tell you that was negative. The villas were wonderful. The food was excellent. The service was amazing. I think it is the personal touch and the little things the staff does for you that makes the stay so special. Jean the lady who cleans rooms puts fresh flowers on your bed everyday. Everyone at the bar/restaurant knows you by name. We had the most relaxing stay. I cried when we left. Now all we can think about is how soon we can go back. If you are thinking of vacationing in Jamaica don't pass up the Rockhouse.

Excellent
We went on the advice of a travel agent to the Rock House for our Honeymoon. It was mid December and I believe a slow season in Jamaica. We stayed in one of the Huts. Private showers are outside and enclosed and have hot water. There is no TV, which I feel is a bonus. We had a double bed with Misquito netting (use it). Maid service was excellent and the maids will also give aloe massages highly recommended. There is also an ancient lady down on the beach named Carmin who also gives a great massage. The Rock House is built on a lagoon and is situated on cliffs. Which you can jump or dive off. they are located 10 yards from each cottage. Rock house also has kayaks and snorkle gear which you can use. The food is the best in Negril period. The owners are Austrailian, very nice and personable. This is a really nice resort it is not an all inclusive but heddonism is down the road and you can buy a day pass. After a day there you will be glad to return to your cotta!

Clifftop Paradise
We spent two nights in Rockhouse and loved almost every minute of it- the setting was spectacular, the staff was nice, the pool was clean and beautiful...a few minor problems to note- at one point we were locked out of our room for nearly 2 hours because the lock on the door was broken, and although the staff got us in finally, the management offered no form of compensation, not even a drink or something. There was also one incident where a staff member may have possibly been trying to charge us twice for some drinks, although we're not positive about that, it may have been an honest mistake. Lastly, if you stay in the studio rooms (the mid-range price), you should inquire if you can have a room upstairs versus the dark downstairs rooms. And among the villas there is a huge range of locations, so you should know which villa you want. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time there and would go back. Jumping off the cliffs there is thrilling too.
