I arrived in Martigny mid-afternoon after a fairly straightforward 4.5 hour stroll from Saint-Marice, where I spent a lovely evening with the Augustian community at their abbey in the town. ... base of Mont Blanc. Stunning views around every corner and a great place to stop for a beer and a bite before heading back to Annecy.

Tomorrow I climb the Col de L'Arpettaz a climb full of hairpins and a little known gem down towards Albertville.

Rain is forecast so it could be interesting.

... Forclaz which I climbed yesterday. We stopped for a coffee and the views of the full lake panorama before finishing the full lap of Lac Annecy .

Tomorrow we are off to visit "the roof of Europe", Chamonix to ride the cable car up to Mont Blanc at a dizzy 3842m. The views are said to be spectacular, hope we have clear weather.

The grade here was only ...
