We entered and exited the Black Forest via train so we got to see a lot of it but think it would of had a more all encompassing feeling if we were driving through it. Walking up along Bacharach's ruined walls toward it's castle I overlook the town. Timber and stone houses crowd each other with slate covered roofs that look like scales on a fish. Sandwiched between the river and the hillside, some of these houses date back to the 14th century.
