Barge, a launch pad for Torino

... comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious, comprised of home made cake, bread and biscuits. The biscuits were wood fired by a bakery just down the road. Supplied jams were again made by the hosts (Fig, Apricot and Apple and Peach); apple juice was also home made although the yogurt was not! During the breakfast Shellie had a wood fired oven at her back; so getting moving after breakfast was a bit of a challenge. Eating home produced food was inspiring me ...

The Deep South (of Italy)

... she's settled in quite nicely. I had asked her to keep some time free to travel with me to Sicily to meet my (her) relatives, so this entry is the first part of the trip where we travel down through southern Italy on our way to Sicily. Giuliana and I set off south and as you would know by now I generally have no particular plan or agenda. My cousin Gianluca has recommended we visit the Tremiti islands about 2/3rds of the way down Italy's Adriatic coast but we miss the ...

Day 3 - A day off, or perhaps the Col De Torini?

Beautiful Downtown Boves!

... as they were having a dinner party with their neighbors, who also had guests staying with them...so it was a big dinner with Italians, French and Americans, with a mix of languages being spoken. It was lots of fun, and the food was, of course, amazing! We were still getting used to the long meals with lots of food. At home, a long dinner is a couple hours. And Sunday was filled with eating, almost a whole day of eating ...

Ski alpine...

The Hunt for the La Praia Hotel

... would help in the Hunt for the La Praia Hotel. Based on the scrap of map that was provided in the printout we first search the area by the sea and after a series of deep 180 turns heading downhill we reached the sea area of Tropea only to find that alas, no La Praia Hotel was located there. We did manage to find a nice marina and a scary camping ground though. So back up the hill and into the town itself and after an ...

Weekend in The Mountains

... to do without knowing what to get. It was pretty good too! Then it was a cooked lunch and a siesta before a drive to the larger town in the area called St-Martin-Vesubie, first stopping for a beautiful view over St Dalmas. It was a beautiful old town although much busier and touristy than St Dalmas. It also had a medieval old town, with a little paved channel of water that runs the whole way down the steeply inclined street. Known as gargouille, this is a ...
