Location Location Location!
We have just returned from a week at the Rocamar Hotel in Albufeira and usually mean to write reviews but never do but I appreciate reading them myself before we book so here goes....
The Rocamar is in a fantastic location, over looking the beach and it is well worth getting a sea view even if you don't spend much time in your room or on your balcony as the views are brilliant! Also you get the sea breeze in the evening that cools your room down.
It is a very clean and well run hotel, no complaints at all about it's 3* rating,it is quite an old hotel so if it was updated slightly it could go to a 4*.
We had clean towels every day and several changes of sheets which you need when it is so hot and the rooms were cleaned every day.
The breakfast too was very good, we had thought from some reviews we had read we may need to eat out but no probs at all, choice of scrambled egg, bacon, beans, lots of fresh rolls, toast, cheese, cooked meats,5 different cereals, yoghurt, fruit, everything you could want!
A nice restaurant in the old town ( which you are only a few mins away from) is the Casa Nova but lots of choice.
I would not hesitate to recommed this hotel to you!
My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in October 2004. Unable to find it while driving around ourselves, we were escorted by a couple of local police officers to the hotel. They even had to call back to the office to confirm how to get there. The hotel was in a great location, adjacent to the Old Town tourist area and overlooking the sea. There is a walkway to he beach directly behind the hotel. The service was good, the breakfast was more than adequate and the atmosphere was excellent.
The hotel is old and small, the rooms are only okay but the location and quiet environmet make it very suitable for those looking for a clean, comfortable place to stay. There was little in the way of planned activities and amenities there but for us, it was very suitable.
Welcome to Paradise
We have stayed at this excellent hotel for the past three years and we will be returning, hopefully, in June of this year. If you want to simply relax and re-charge your batteries this is the place. No noisy pubs and clubs nearby but they can be found in the centre of Albufeira for those who wish to 'party'.
The hotel is very clean and comfortable with an excellent staff team (they are like family to us now) The food, especially the fish dishes, are to die for. The beach is just across from the hotel you can just walk from the hotel in your swimsuit its situated so close.
We could live in this hotel forever (if they would lets us).
Location, location, location!
We stayed at the Rocamar Hotel for a week in Sept04 and would recommend it. It sits on the cliff looking down over Albufeira beach in an absolutely perfect location. It's just a five minute walk into the Old Town and just two mins to the beach down a flight of steps.
The rooms are fairly unexceptional - comfortable enough and clean. We didn't bother upgrading to a sea view room as prefer to be out and about than sat in the hotel! Buffet breakfasts were a little dull, but adequate.
Be sure to visit the incredibly friendly Olly's bar - you'll pass it on the way from the Rocamar to the Old Town. Olly and his wife advised us on all the best places to visit/eat in Albufeira - it was like having a personal tour guide!
Good hotel on prime location
excellent hotel in prime position overlooking albufeira beach. minutes walk away from town centre. NO pool but sunbathing area and beach right on doorstep. Rooms kept clean daily, fitted carpet, telelevision and air conditioning/heating in winter. Good hotel for people travelling on their own due to location etc. Spectacular views.
Just spent Christmas (2003) here and the hotel had everything going for it. The location was perfect with a sea view to die for. I would recommend this hotel without any hesitation.
Exellent location, helpfull staff
stayed for one week beginning of oct, exellent location, very helpful staff. five minutes beach and town square. only one bad mark the room was quite obviously previosly occupied by smokers. booked again for two weeks next year first two in oct.
Excellent Location - Excellent Value
Right on the beach at the top of a cliff, beautiful views and short 1 minute walk to town. Definately get a sea view room, you sleep only to the sound of the ocean. The staff was very friendly and the rooms very clean. At 60 E a night, it was a fantastic deal. We booked through the hotel directly. Only disadvantage is parking is on the street, but we had no problems getting a spot. Breakfast included and was good.
We love it
Excellent location, friendly staff, great sea views, close to the centreand buffet breakfasts to remember!
The Hotel is in the right place at the right price. Literally overlooking the sea, the sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking. We (12 of us) were on a golfing Holiday in the first week of November 02. It was glorious. We all had sea views from our rooms. We did a B&B deal. I think we paid something like 70 Euros per room! (£25 each person!). Incredible value. The staff were polite, unassuming, efficient and very proffesional. The Breakfast was presented with Pride and Quality, but no fuss. The Main old town is literally a 5 minute stroll, downhill into the town, a little steep coming back, but it is one of those places where you feel really safe, even late at night. Loved it.

Silves (sounds like Silvesh) is a lovely town. We drove from Portimao about 20 kms. Castello was interesting, built by the moors (Arabs) including a 1.2m litre water tank dug in the rock. Now you can walk inside. Used for over a 1000 years and retired in 1980's. Not bad ...

Our GPS took us up a single lane intrepid local road. A bit scary at times. Should have known better and stay on the beaten track. We got there unscathed and meeting the only vehicle on the road at a very convenient point. Otherwise we might have uncorked a cork tree. It was a bit like a James Bond drive but in a campervan, no guns involved. Phew.. Great view.
My new friends Jean Pierre and Christina are a delight. They spent time on the map explaining camping in Morocco highlights, things to be wary of etc. All valuable information. We leave for Lagos. It has started to rain so head for a camp with electricity and facilities. Gayle gets a hair ...
