Today was my last full day in Andorra. There wasn't a huge amount to do. It wasn't snowing, but the wind was so fierce that it seemed like a sand storm made out of snow. I had a great time watching a group of cows grazing in snow up to their stomachs. Other than that I had a walk around town and spent about an hour at a ...
Canillo, Andorra sirsmonkey42... transformed. Snow everywhere. I went for an early morning walk to take some pictures of the same places I did before to show the huge difference. It's been snowing all day and even now as I write this I'm starting at snowflakes the size of tissues hit the window. I wouldn't be surprised if it was up to my waist tomorrow.

There's not too much to do with it snowing like this (ironically enough the ski resorts don't even open till the end of ...

Tarascon-sur-Ariège, Midi-Pyrénées, France marianm... What it does mean, we're not quite sure of yet. Still dealing with the shock and going over a few different options. All while kicking myself for not realizing this sooner. Only one thing is for certain - I'm not going to let this spoil our trip, and we're going to have to get cycling! (o.k., two things).
Boussenac, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... story.

Strange how we associate hurt with the animals we eat, but not for vegetables. The next day when I was harvesting the garden before the first frost I felt just terrible hacking apart the long vines of the butternut squash plant and tossing it into the compost heap. At least the chicken died quickly, that plant was still alive!

Butcharing Basics

1) Pick up ½ carcasses from the Abatoire (Tip: get the workers to ...
Boussenac, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... on toast it resembled scrambled eggs in both texture and taste. Won’t become my favourite dish, but it was interesting to try out. I can certainly appreciate the effort to use every part of an animal in respect for it giving it’s life, but I did feel a little like Hannibal Lectre. There’s just something in knowing you’re eating brain that doesn’t appeal over all the other organs on an animal.
Boussenac, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... and hand hold. Until you get to the point where you can’t seem to make a move at all. Limbs getting sore and there’s no place to set your foot, and no where to grab hold with your hand. Every muscle in your body tense trying to keep you in the place where you re. Mind solely focused on the task at hand. Moving slightly, feeling around, using divets in the rock that are barely visible to support your weight. Ever upward straining ...
Tarascon-sur-Ariège, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... called ‘Patou’ are raised with a herd (Pyrenees mountain dogs). As a result they will guard and defend their animals from any predator they may face - including humans. If you happen to wander in range they will bark furiously and give you many warnings to get away. If you don’t heed the warnings - you’re at your own risk with a fierce dog that comes up to your ...
Marc, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totango... we paused to look at some other markings that had been left: a series of lines and dots. Perhaps a primitive form of communication, these too have been found in many caves throughout the area. Unfortunately, they have yet to be deciphered, so as yet we do not know what they were saying with this writing and other images.

But also on the walls are some writings that are clearly distinguishable to the modern eye. A more recent addition ...
Niaux, Midi-Pyrénées, France 2totangoWHAT THE BROCHURE SAID: The Col de Port (1249m) is a beautiful climb and has a great descent to Tarascon.

Unfortunately the rest of the days route is on fairly major roads filed with cars heading for
Andorra to do some tax free shopping.
